4 outdoor activities to be active with friends this summer

1

Escalation

For those who like to play the climbing monkeys, know that it is possible to do it in the sun this summer (if the latter decides to thank us for his presence). Oh and, contrary to what one might think, this very complete sport is not reserved only for the initiated!

In the city: The Allez Up center has set up magnificent outdoor silos on which you can climb 125 feet high to observe the city! To ride, you must be accredited or accompanied by someone who is. Otherwise, you can have fun bouldering (no accreditation required) on their exterior walls. The silos are open weekdays from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on weekends between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Out of town: If you have a bit of experience, go spend a day at Val-David Regional Park ! You will find more than 500 wall routes and as many bouldering options! Otherwise, it is possible to take an introductory course. In bursts, you can also go to Mont Orford , Mont Tremblant or Montagne d’Argent .

Surf

Surf fan? No need to fly overseas to indulge in this exotic-looking sport!

In town: Two places are available to you to practice river surfing without leaving town! The wave at Guy and Habitat 67 . It is possible to rent all the equipment and take introductory lessons (recommended for your first time). If you are a beginner, know that the Guy wave is more accessible and less intimidating!

Out of town: Five hours away and you’re in Hampton Beach, where you can surf in the ocean, the real deal! You can rent a surfboard and a wetsuit with no problem once there! If the waves aren’t there, you can rent paddleboards (SUPs), play soccer on the beach, or run along the water’s edge. In short, a great expedition to do with your most daring friends!

Kayak / SUP

If you are looking for a sport on the water that is less intense than surfing, try a paddleboard (SUP) or kayak ride!

In town: KSF offers paddleboard and kayak rentals at 4 different locations , where you can obviously indulge in both sports on site!

Out of town: Again, there are plenty of options available to you. Take a look at the SEPAQ website to find out all the places where you can practice SUP or kayak in Quebec, as well as a list of rental prices and items to bring!

Besides being fun, combining movement and fresh air can work wonders for your mood.

Mountain hiking

This is an activity that can appeal to adventure seekers as well as fans of simple outdoor pleasure. Just choose a mountain that suits your needs and pack a good lunch, and you are in business.

In town: In town, your choices are limited to the only mountain worthy of the name, Mount Royal. That said, if you are forced to stay in the metropolis, this is a very good option! Add a little spice by taking any wooded trails you find.

Out of town: There are plenty of choices here! Very close to Montreal, you can try Mont St-Hilaire or Mont St-Grégoire . Their longest trails are quite fast (2 hours), but offer a reasonable drop.

In the Adirondacks you will find several mountains for all skill levels. We really like the Giant . It is both difficult and of a reasonable duration (5 to 6 hours).

Otherwise, by staying in Quebec, you have many choices such as Mont Mégantic , a very beautiful hike (7 hours) with breathtaking views (photo). The Acropole des Draveurs in Charlevoix (5 hours), the Black Cow in Tremblant (4 hours), the Pic de l’Ours in Orford (3 to 4 hours), and more!
