Origins of the Thai Cat

The origins of the Thai cat are lost in the mists of time It is in fact one of the most ancient breeds because it derives from the ancient Siamese . In the 50s the Thai cat replaced the Siamese in all respects , in fact in some publications the Thai cat is called modern Siamese . 

The origins of the Thai cat therefore refer to those of the Siamese, imported into the United Kingdom from Ancient Siam in the late 1800s, where the selection was refined. Towards the end of the 1980s the breed was recognized by the World Cat Federation (WFC) with the name of ” Crème Caramel “. In 1990, however, in Russia, it was registered with the name of Thai Cat, in homage to the ancient Siam, current Thailand and recognized all over the world. 

Morphology of the Thai cat

The Thai cat is snappy, with a tapered shape. Of medium size, he can weigh around 5 kg , he is muscular and slender, very elegant and graceful in his movements. Its coat is short, silky and dense, with an almost non-existent undercoat. This makes it suitable for people allergic to cats .  

The color combinations are peculiar: in general the color of the body is lighter than that of the tips, in jargon ” points “, darker, a distinctive feature of the Thai Cat.

• The classic one is the Seal Point which includes a light cream-colored coat and dark tips.
• The variants allowed by the standard are the Chocolate Point , with ivory body and chocolate-colored tips,
• Blue Point with ice colored body and gray colored tips,
• Lilac Point , with a cream-colored body and pinkish tips.

In any case, the beauty of this cat is given precisely by the contrast of colors that seem to draw socks and gloves and ear flaps.

The shape of the head is rounded, the ears are wide and low, the eyes are lemon-shaped with an intense blue color, very expressive. The tail becomes tapered towards the tip which changes color, such as ears and legs.

Psychology of the Thai Cat

The Thai cat is considered a talker . Very affectionate and talkative with his family, he borders on the character of a dog. Faithful, possessive at times to the point of excess, he can manifest jealousy towards those who are next to his owner . It is very intelligent enough to make it a transportable cat anywhere with its family and able to socialize easily. In fact, we often see Thai cats led on a leash. He is very familiar with children and is respectful of shared spaces.

Thai cat care

It is a resistant cat, with a coat that does not require special care, apart from periodic brushing. With regard to nutrition, however, it is necessary to pay attention: prefer a protein diet, rich in fat and low in sugar , as it could be subject to overweight if it leads a too sedentary life and manifest diabetic processes. Periodic veterinary visits are recommended, to prevent unpleasant ailments such as otitis, slight overweight or dermatitis.
