European cat, characteristics
Many think it is the common cat that roams in many cities. In reality it is a valuable specimen considered the closest descendant to the “divine” Egyptian cat. Its soft coat – often brindle – sets it apart.
The European Cat is also called shorthair cat , in fact in the USA it is called American Shorthair and in the UK British Shorthair. This speaks volumes about the diffusion of this breed, which is easy to reproduce and has a long fertile age.

Origins of the European Cat
It seems that the European Cat is of direct descent from the cat of Ancient Egypt , represented in many paintings of the time. He was considered a deity and consecrated to the royal life. The Phoenicians then began to transport it on their ships, for their ability to hunt mice, in this way this breed reached the European coasts and also spread in Roman times.
Morphology of the European Cat
Although appearing to be the most common cat in the world, the European Cat has pedigree and meets precise standards recognized internationally since 1983 . The structure is muscular, harmonious in shape and height. It can weigh up to 6 kg.Â
The head is round and small, the ears are well spaced, sometimes covered with tufts of hair, the eyes are slightly oblique, with bright colors that change from blue to green, to orange yellow. The tail is broad at the base and thin towards the tip.
The particularity on which attention is focused is the hair and its color variations. In fact, the brindle and feline jargon is called tabby. Color and designs can vary and create very particular and refined melange: from gray to black, to red and white, with designs such as the so-called continuous brindle, marbled and pied and these designs are generally distinctive and unique by subject.
Psychology of the European Cat
The European Cat is a particularly intelligent and crafty breed. These are curious cats, defined as explorers, also moved by an innate predatory instinct . It is a playful cat, affectionate without being intrusive, it becomes attached to the family and also shows sociability with the other animals of the house. Suitable for living in lively contexts, where you can move with ease.
European Cat Care
The European Cat is a strong feline, with a healthy and robust constitution. Long-lived, not subject to particular pathologies . Its coat does not require excessive care, however it is recommended to brush it once or twice a week, to remove the dead part. The diet must be particularly balanced, especially based on proteins, it is better to moderate the intake of fibers and sugars.
