Dolce & Gabbana also says goodbye to furs
Fur-free breakthrough for Dolce & Gabbana. The brand, founded in Milan in 1985, has officially announced that from 2022 it will renounce the use of animal fur in all its collections, echoing the choices made by numerous, famous international designers in recent years.
For Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, 2022 begins with an ethical resolution: no more furs in all the brand’s collections . The decision, already announced before the recent men’s line show, is now official and adds to the choices already made by many famous fashion colleagues towards a cruelty-free , more sustainable and conscious fashion .
Fur-free breakthrough for Dolce & Gabbana
As stated in a note released by the fashion house , ” Dolce & Gabbana has chosen to discontinue the use of animal fur in all its collections starting from 2022 “.
A turning point which, according to the brand itself, is supported by Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International , in accordance with the indications of the Fur Free Alliance .
The maison has also announced that it will continue to collaborate with the master furriers , ” custodians of specific knowledge and skills with an indispensable added value.“, With a view to protecting, preserving and passing on its professionalism. The artisans will be involved in the creation of eco-fur garments and accessories , starting from recycled and recyclable materials.
A more sustainable future
” Dolce & Gabbana is working towards a more sustainable future, in which the use of animal fur cannot be contemplated, ” said Fedele Usai , Group Communication & Marketing Officer of Dolce & Gabbana.
” The entire fashion system has an important social responsibility that must be promoted and encouraged : we will integrate innovative materials and environmentally friendly production processes into our collections, while at the same time safeguarding the jobs and professional skills that were in danger of extinction “.
Dolce & Gabbana in good company
Dolce & Gabbana is not the first brand to have abandoned fur for its creations. Since her debut in 2001, designer Stella McCartney had communicated her ethical vision, rejecting the use of animal furs in favor of sustainable and ecological materials.
Over the years, a long trail of designers – from Calvin Klein to Giorgio Armani , from Tommy Hilfiger to Ralph Lauren, from Elisabetta Franchi to Hugo Boss, to Prada  – have followed in his footsteps. In 2017 it was the Gucci house that announced that it would no longer produce animal furs starting from 2018, followed the following year by Donatella Versace.
On September 24, 2021, the Kering groupannounced that none of the group’s maison (Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Brioni and Saint Laurent) will use more animal furs starting from the Fall 2022 collections: a good sign for all those brands that still hesitate to make a real breakthrough cruelty free .
Fur Free Alliance, what it is
The Fur Free Alliance is an international coalition created with the aim of putting an end to the exploitation and killing of fur animals.
It is made up of over fifty animal protection organizations, based in more than thirty-five countries around the world, which strive daily to achieve the goal, focusing on three synergistic areas:
- At the political level , it focuses on expanding national production bans in order to decrease supply.
- On a corporate level , it works to promote the Fur Free Retailer program and corporate campaigns in order to reduce demand.
- At the consumer level , it aims to raise awareness of issues relating to the welfare and exploitation of animals.
