The basic Swedish massage: history and benefits
Today the basic Swedish massage is the first massage technique that is taught to those who want to become a professional masseur as its maneuvers are then found in all the other massage techniques.

Today the basic Swedish massage is the first massage technique that is taught to those who want to become a professional masseur as its maneuvers are then found in all the other massage techniques.
It is a classic Western massage that in Europe represents the standard traditional massage, a name that distinguishes it especially in English-speaking countries, Dutch and Hungary. In other states, including Sweden, this massage is instead referred to as the classic massage . The Swedish basic massage
designationwas born from its creator, the Swedish physician and physiotherapist Pehr Henrik Linf (1776-1839) who was the first to systematize massage techniques within a method defining indications, contraindications and manual skills.
Ling himself is also the founder of the Ling Institute of Modern Gymnastics, whose students spread the massage techniques throughout Europe by developing the manual skills of the classic Swedish massage still used today. It is a complete massage that is performed on the whole body even if, given the freedom of maneuvers and non-rigid sequences, it can also be performed on individual muscle groups.
The benefits of the basic Swedish massage
Today the Swedish basic massage is used above all for its decontracting, relaxing, toning and draining effect. Furthermore, due to its action on the hemolymphatic circulation , it is also useful in the prevention of cellulite. It is performed with the help of massage oil and lying on the bed.Â
Among the main benefits that the Swedish basic massage can bring we have:
>Â Healthier and more luminous skin:Â a massage improves the skin in terms of brightness and beauty thanks to the elimination of dead cells and the stimulation of the pores.
>Â Â Relaxation:Â each type of massage allows the person to enter a state of relaxation, just knowing the maneuvers to be performed and the points to be treated
>Â Relaxation of muscle tension:Â massaging the muscles relieves muscle tension and contractures, improving athletic performance
>  Stimulation lymphatic:during the treatment there is a movement of liquids which leads to the elimination of waste that accumulates in the body. The result is an improvement in the immune system and a regenerating effect capable of counteracting inflammation and edema.
The basic Swedish massage techniques
As you will learn in our massage courses, there are four main movements of the massage and it is traditionally distinguished between:
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Touching:Â a light and relaxing maneuver that can also be carried out in depth to drain the blood and lymph
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Friction:Â a squeezing maneuver of abnormal tissues (fat and cellulite)
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Deep kneading:Â a maneuver of twisting and squeezing the muscle
–Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Percussion:small maneuvers to stimulate the muscle and skin It is therefore a complete massage and the basis from which the aspiring professional masseur must begin his studies, before moving on to more complex massage techniques.
