Rottweiler, characteristics

A dog that inspires fear and respect, but who knows how to be very sweet if well educated: the Rottweiler is a German Molosser whose first breeding is also appreciated in Italy.

Rottweiler

The elegance, the beauty, the balance, everything is summed up in a powerful Molosser breed , perhaps fearful, certainly not for everyone, but objectively the Rottweiler is a great beautiful dog.

Origins of the Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is a German Molosser , originally from the city of Rottweil. This town since 1800 was an important center of commercial exchanges and the dog in question had not failed to get noticed on those commercial squares, so much so that some breeders were interested in it and had started to study it and start breeding.

At the time, the Rottweiler was trained to lead herds , protect properties and as a defense subject, a sort of bodyguard for the movements of the traders and businessmen of the time.

During the war the Rottweiler was used by the German army and further selected for military tasks. Around the ’30s it also landed in the USA with great success, and in 1950 there were also Rottweiler farms in Italy .

Rottweiler morphology

The Rottweiler is called a large dog. It can reach a height of 69 cm at the withers and a weight of 50 kg. Its structure is robust, very powerful , with a well-defined muscularity that makes it strong, resistant and agile at the same time.

As often happens , males have a much more massive body mass than female specimens. The Rottweiler’s coat is short and smooth, black in color with fawn or brown markings. Much rarer is the white Rottweiler . The skull widens markedly on the forehead, the ears are pendulous, small and triangular, the eyes are almond-shaped and brown in color.

Rottweiler Psychology

As mentioned above the Rottweiler is not a dog for everyone. In fact, it possesses a  dominant character, therefore it needs an owner or an expert breeder, who knows how to manage it during the months of imprinting, which, never as for this breed, are essential to train it in sociability and behavioral balance.

It is a dog that is very attached to the family and protects it. He loves to play outdoors, run and share time and activities with his owner. The female specimens are suitable for families with children, in fact they show an innate maternal sense, even if it is always advisable to watch carefully.

The Rottweiler could show all its momentum in the presence of other animals, as it tends to emphasize its sense of predominance . It is therefore advisable to be careful when you meet other dogs on a walk.

Rottweiler care

Rottweilers are hardy dogs and generally enjoy good health . Life expectancy is around 13 years. It is a specimen that easily adapts to any temperature, lives both in the garden and in the house.

It requires a very well balanced diet , especially the calcium supply for the bones, as from the fourth to the seventh month it shows a very sudden development and the structure must support this transformation. Some specimens may be subject to hip dysplasia , so it is advisable to carry out the necessary checks before purchasing a puppy.
