Origins of the munchkin cat
The munchkin cat and the recognition of this breed belong to recent history. In the eighties, in the United States , more precisely in Louisiana, a small black cat with short legs was found. Over the years she has given birth to various examples of short-legged cats, until the birth of the progenitor male of the breeding of this breed, recognized in 2003 .
Morphology and dimensions of the munchkin cat
In terms of size, the munchkin cat is  small in size ; it is even considered the smallest cat in the world (hence the nickname “dachshund cat”). It can weigh around 4 kg.
Its salient feature is linked to  its very short legs ; the anterior ones even more limited than the posterior ones. This condition appears to be due to a series of completely natural genetic mutations. This allows him to assume the sitting position, with the torso erect and the front legs raised, like a small kangaroo.
Its structure is muscular but long -limbed , which makes it particularly agile in movements . The hair is soft and silky, short in the munchkin shorthair variant, otherwise of medium length. The colors and designs allowed by the standard are all possible ones belonging to cats.
The head has a triangular but not pointed shape, with wide and straight ears rounded at the apex, while the eyes are large and well spaced. The tail is as long as the whole body and slightly rounded.
Munchkin cat character
The munchkin is a very sociable cat , both as a puppy and as an adult. The company of other animals and his adoptive family is vital to him. It must therefore be welcomed in a home where presence and affection are always guaranteed. He loves the cuddles and the attention that he reciprocates very easily.
It is suitable for spending time with children and sharing respectful playtime with them. He loves running, walking and climbing , despite his apparently clumsy appearance.
Problems and care of the munchkin cat
That of the munchkin cat  is a fairly recent genealogy , and there is no incidence of cases that could warn about possible problems or pathologies related to the breed. It can be prone to lordosis , but triggers can depend on many aspects, including nutrition and physical activity. He has a good prospect of life that can reach 18 years of age .
