An app to recognize the nose of dogs

Losing your dog: a nightmare that can find its foundation in reality.

The pet care brand Iams (Mars Petcare), together with the Adam & EveDdb agency, reports that in the United States the phenomenon of the loss of four-legged companions – of which only 3-5% possess the microchip – is widespread. “ Every year, 10 million pets get lost in the US, or 27,000 every day . Unfortunately, many of them no longer find their way home , ”reads the presentation video of NoseID , an ingenious canine recognition app recently launched by the brand. “

We have discovered something that can help: a dog’s nose is as unique as a fingerprint, so it can be used to identify them . ”

Based on the uniqueness of the nose of our most faithful friends , the NoseID system analyzes its shape and characteristics, developing a biometric identification registration of each dog that makes it possible to immediately recognize it .

How NoseID works

NoseID works simply by equating the “print” of the dog’s nose to a Qrcode. Intuitive and easy to use, the application allows you to take a close-up photo of our furry friend’s nose and upload it to the system, so that it becomes part of a digital archive of images.

To complete the registration, additional information is required, such as the size and breed of the dog , as well as an additional full-length photograph of the animal. Fundamental, in case of loss, will be not only the shape of the nose, but also the wrinkles, the particular signs and the ripples around the muzzle.

In the unfortunate event that Fido gets lost, the user can launch an alert on the app, which immediately notifies all registered community members .

Those who believe they have identified the missing animal can proceed to scan the nose, which in case of correspondence with one of the images in the archive will be promptly recognized by the system . At this point, all that remains is to get in touch with the rightful owner to warn him of the discovery, and witness the happy reunion.

The importance of the network

The success of the application is based on the assumption of its massive diffusion, necessary to ensure that the network of users authorized to use it is conspicuous, widespread and therefore effective in case of loss.

Among the various features available to users, on the app there is a map of the lost dogs and a poster generator to stick close to home.

For the moment NoseID – available for iOS and Android – can only be downloaded in the United States, but it is expected that, following the American running-in, the application will be launched globally .
