During puberty, when the children are inclined toward adolescence, the sebaceous glands under the hormonal changes start to produce more oil than before thus increasing the risk of acne.
Beneath our skin, there are sebaceous glands that are connected to the outer environment through small holes. These holes are called pores. Sebaceous glands produce sebum that is carried through a stalk known as follicle to the upper skin pore. When the oil is pumped upward it also carries the dead skin cells with it to the outer surface. When these dead cells along with oil droplets get stuck to the pore opening and causes acne.
