Mistreatment and abuse of animals. To combat them, giving voice and rights to those who all too often seem to have none, the association Be Animals launches a website that collects reports of offenses from individual citizens. “ The commitment of each of us can make a difference ” says the organization, inviting the entire civil society to communicate on the portal, anonymously, the irregularities of which it is aware.

A tool against animal abuse

The new website intends to be a tool, in the hands of citizens, to report mistreatment of animals and irregularities of different forms and entities.

The declared intent is only one, as simple as it is potentially effective: to provide To Be Animals, and consequently to the Police forces active in the area, concrete clues for targeted interventions . 

Once the report has been received, which can be carried out anonymously on the portal, the organization will in fact take care of verifying the actual existence of crimes and – if they are ascertained – will file the complaint with the competent Public Prosecutor, following the judicial process up to the eventual trial. 

From work to pollution, not just animal abuse

“ Our actions are mainly directed towards the animals used by the food industry ”, says Be Animals on its website , “ because they are numerically the most exploited and least protected by the laws ”.

“ We believe that the controls on farms, delegated by the Ministry of Health to the regional Asl, are few and inefficient . For this reason, our investigative team acts in the first person ”declared Alessandro Ricciuti, lawyer of Be Animals, commenting on the launch of the initiative.

In addition to offenses in the field of animal abuse, there are several areas within which the association will accept complaints:labor exploitation, environmental pollution , health problems and food fraud. 

Who is Being Animals

Being Animals is a non-profit organization that works to protect and protect the rights of animals raised for food . Introducing himself to users, he claims to exist ” to build a world where animals are protected and free to satisfy their interests “. 

To achieve this ambitious goal, the Be Animals team moves on several fronts: it carries out video surveys in intensive farms and slaughterhouses, structures targeted campaigns , puts pressure on institutions to ask for legislative changes, presses companies to push them to improve their policies, promotes afood system aimed at ending the exploitation of animals . 

“ Starting from the investigative work, we are taking intensive farms to court on charges of animal abuse. It had never happened in Italy so far. The goal is not only to punish and eliminate lawlessness and widespread violence but above all to change the status of so-called livestock animals, today practically without rights ”, underlines the association.

“ We aim to ban the breeding of fur animals or their use in circuses, we persuade the main supermarkets to stop selling cruel products such as foie gras or to ban the most harmful practices against animals ”.

The hard work of Being Animals has allowed it to reach tens of millions of people via TV, media and social networks and to win some important battles in the field of animal rights : from the closure of mink farms in 2021 to retirement from the big Italian distribution of an unethical product such as goose liver pate, the action of the association can boast of having achieved goals capable of restoring, one step at a time, a little meaning to the word Humanity.
