The first free veterinary hospital in Rome
In via della Magliana work is being done to design and build the first free veterinary hospital in the capital. A pioneering initiative in Italy, which focuses on the protection of animal rights and health.
A veterinary hospital that guarantees free care for pets. A desire and a need for many, given the economic burdens that drugs and interventions for four-legged friends can entail. A possible reality in Rome, where an investment of 3.5 million euros should allow the construction of the first public hospital for dogs and cats in the capital and the region.
The bureaucratic process is underway
The start of work on the construction of the health facility is expected by the end of the year. The bureaucratic process, still in the initial phase, foresees that a dedicated call for tenders will be launched by the middle of 2022, in order to entrust the design by the summer. Asl Roma 3 will be involved in the project, but also some associations that deal with animal protection.
Confirmation of the start of the project, pioneering in Italy, comes from the Councilor for the Environment of Rome Sabrina Alfonsi who, in a post on Facebook , reiterated the administration’s attention to animals and expressed satisfaction for the recent approval of the 2022 budget.
“In Rome there are 844 dogs housed in kennels and 662 cats in catteries, between public and affiliated structures. Adult animals and puppies, just waiting to find a family ”she wrote.
“ Our goal is to make Rome a city attentive to animal rights, a city that cares but above all is committed to finding welcoming families who can give serenity and affection to animals that often come from difficult paths. Today inspection of the Capitoline kennel of Muratella. We are working to design the first public veterinary hospital, to improve animal care, facilitate adoption paths .Let’s go ahead, for a city tailored to all the species that inhabit it, a city that is friendly to animals . “
The initiative was also enthusiastically welcomed by the Regional Councilor Simone Lupi, who commented on Facebook :” The care and public assistance for our pets no longer seems to be a mirage ”.
Location and objectives
The structure will be located in the municipal kennel of “Muratella” in via della Magliana in Rome. The declared goal is to provide a free health service open to all animals, in order to allow their rights and protection.
Initially, the hospital’s priority would be to help the kennel guests in need of care and then later extend the service to a wider range of four-legged patients.
The initiative proves invaluable in supporting voluntary associations , for which it is difficult to bear the medical expenses required by the care of animals, often found in critical conditions.
Protection of animals, the commitment of Rome
Among the services of the new veterinary hospital, recovery projects with specialized educators for abandoned and abused dogs would also be considered, as well as music therapy programs to alleviate conditions of severe discomfort and stress for the animals .
While we await further details and anticipations, it is clear that the structure was created with the aim of strengthening the commitment that the city of Rome has undertaken, for some years, in the direction of animal protection. For some time, in fact, the municipal administration has offered a series of free veterinary care to resident citizens with an ISEE income not exceeding 15 thousand euros per year.
