The modern Mediterranean diet is not healthy

The Mediterranean diet is often the subject of studies that highlight its health benefits, which more or less we all already know: we know that the Mediterranean diet reduces cardiovascular risks , improves memory and prevents aging, for example.

And we rightly defend it with the sword: we are in the country where this diet was discovered, so we know how to eat to keep fit and healthy, right?

Not so soon.
Many studies (which we do not read) that have appeared in recent years do not refer to the Italian diet, but often focus on the Greek one. The difference? Less bread, pasta, very few sweets, which although very sugary are limited to a scarce variety: nothing to do with our pastry! And the pizza?

We are the home of pizza! But if all of these things are not considered in the studies on the Mediterranean diet and its health benefits, it means that our daily diet deviates a lot from the hard and pure model that researchers take into account. And someone has noticed.

In fact, an Italian study has recently made a comparison between the current Mediterranean diet of Italians and the true Mediterranean diet, the one recommended in the guidelines. Result?
Italians are the first to NOT go on a true Mediterranean diet. Italians eat twice as much animal protein as prescribed, more fat, sweeter. In particular, we consume many processed meats, the most dangerous ones for health, including sausages, cured meats, ready meals.
