Rheumatoid arthritis drug treatments and natural remedies
Rheumatoid arthritis represents a chronic inflammation affecting the articular cartilage . The consequences are often serious and can compromise the functionality of the whole person.
To date, there are both pharmacological treatments to undergo to soothe the discomfort, and natural cures and remedies to promote all the joint functions of the bones.
Medication-based treatment

The first therapy to undergo during an acute phase of arthritis is obviously the pharmacological one. Usually the doctor gives the patient anti- inflammatory drugs , painkillers and others that serve to preserve and protect the inflamed cartilage.
In some cases it is also possible to administer opioids, always under close medical supervision , from which a very powerful pain-relieving effect is obtained, as well as unfortunately in the long run also a total addiction. This is why generally only severe cases undergo such aggressive therapy.
Another pharmacological substance is hydrocodone, which however is not available in Italy. Conversely, it is possible to take the classic ibuprofen, as well as acetylsalicylic acid.
There are also non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (also called NSAIDs) on the market which aim to decrease pain and make joint mobility easier. Also in this case the treatment cycle must be short, given the serious negative effects that can have an impact on the stomach and liver.
Other usable drugs are:
- Penicillamine: such as Sufortan;
- Azathioprine: such as Azathioprine, Immunoprin and Azafor;
- Hydroxychloroquine: such as Plaquenil;
- Celecoxib: like Aleve, Naprosyn, Prexan and Naprius;
- Deltacortene ;
- Sulfasalazine: including Salazopyrin;
- Naproxen: for example Aleve, Naprosyn, Prexan and Naprius;
- Diclofenac: in them we find Fastum Painkiller and Dicloreum.
Let’s not forget that cortisol-based drugs can also be taken (both orally and by injection) .
In general, however, the doctor prefers to avoid them, as contraindications can occur such as: thin bones, bruising, weight gain, cataracts, and then again diabetes, hypertension and swelling of the face.
Natural remedies: trace elements and gemmoderivati
Trace elements are substances valid for soothing the negative effects of arthritis. Among the most valid natural remedies we have the Copper-Gold-Silver solution that manages to improve the symptoms of both acute and chronic arthritis. In principle, this product is valid as a cure for any type of inflammation.
During the acute state, together with the copper-gold-silver solution we can use other even more effective trace elements.
It’s a matter of:
- manganese , is good for relieving all joint pain. In fact, it is able to channel all the biological processes capable of giving the right balance to our health;
- sulfur , acts as a support for all other trace elements. In fact, it desensitizes all pain by putting the body in synergy with the diathetic trace element.
Other natural substances similar to trace elements are bud derivatives capable of restricting the range of action of the symptoms of arthritis. Among the best we have Ampelopsis Weitchii almost always prescribed for all joint and periarticular inflammatory states.
Black currant is also a natural anti-inflammatory, which when taken in association with grapevine (Vitis vinifera) improves the stage of chronic and relapsing symptoms of small joints damaged by rheumatoid arthritis.
On the same wavelength is the use of kiwi , a valid curative contribution for arthralgia and joint inflammation of an immunological matrix. This remedy is also valid for general joint, muscle and rheumatic pain as it also has analgesic power.
The devil’s claw
Devil ‘s claw is one of the most used active plants in case of immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Of African origin, it is used as a substitute for an anti-inflammatory and is also valid for the treatment of all other diseases that generate inflammation. More specifically, the plant acts positively on the muscles and the skeleton. It is valid both for dealing with simple back pains and for more serious diseases that affect all joints.
It can be taken without fear of contraindications even if it is not recommended to use it in conjunction with a diabetic treatment.
Glucosamine
Glucosamine is an aminomonosaccharide that is an integral part of our connective tissue, in particular it is a substance present in cartilage. Being therefore a forming element, in order to make it elastic and self-regenerating, taking glucosamine helps to better deal with the pains of arthritis.
In fact, it has the ability to prevent the bones from fracturing. And at the same time it manages to grow the tissues that have torn apart. This happens thanks to its structure similar to a synovial fluid present in the joints.
The Chondroitin sulfate
Chondroitin sulfate is a substance present inside the cartilage, which is why taking it externally means supporting the consistency of the connective layers.
If the joints were stiff, this natural substance has the task of softening them, while also soothing the pain.
Thanks to this substance the classic elasticity is found and the reaching of a critical bone level is avoided , linked to damage, irreversible stiffening deformations. Beyond this, the pain is also easier to bear.
The substance has no contraindications if taken in the right dosage and is well accepted by the whole body.
