Magnesium and blood pressure

Magnesium and blood pressure

Magnesium is a blood pressure regulator and helps to restore the right values, rebalance electrolyte levels, improve sleep quality and mood, counteract stress … and it is no small thing for cardiovascular well-being.

Magnesium and blood pressure

Magnesium is a supplement dear to us as it performs multiple functions and helps our body to keep fit. It brings its mineral salts where there is a shortage due to physical activity, particularly hot temperatures, copious sweating .

It helps to regulate sleep-wake cycles , to provide energy in times when it is easy to suffer from exhaustion, asthenia . It also seems that magnesium can help control blood pressure values .

In fact, magnesium is a rebalancer that helps to raise the pressure in case of hypotension and to control and lower the pressure in case of hypertension , because it favors the elimination of sodium through diuresis .

Some recent studies have highlighted the ability of magnesium, in doses higher than those of the normal daily requirement , to lower the pressure of a few units of mg of mercury in hypertensive subjects.

Its action is not comparable to that of a specific drug, but the n subjects who manifest symptoms in the early stages or for premenopausal women , could be a useful remedy to introduce.

Often, a diuretic is prescribed for high blood pressure , the side effect of which is to excrete large doses of magnesium from the body. It’s kind of like the dog chasing its tail, right? Because in this way we are also going to counteract those trace elements that can instead act in favor of pressure rebalancing.

It is always important to investigate the causes that lead to pressure changes , because sometimes the stressful conditions, for example, require a different type of approach .

We therefore try to provide as much detail as possible to the doctor so that the diagnosis is accurate and the treatment targeted. The supply of magnesium could be very useful for example, since it is a relaxing remedy for the  muscles (and the heart is a muscle)  to elasticise the vessels, to bring psychophysical well-being to our central nervous system.

How much magnesium to take

Magnesium, as already mentioned, performs many functions and therefore its intake must be customized according to needs. The doctor will establish the dosages and verify the correct dosage. In general, we know that the recommended daily dose is 400 mg for an adult male , then if he does intense sporting activity it will be a higher dosage.

Magnesium deficiency

What are the signs that show us a magnesium deficiency? Muscle spasms and cramps, mood changes, irritability, nausea , loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, disturbed sleep are symptoms that can set off an alarm bell and signal the need for magnesium supplementation.

Since it is normal for our body to periodically need this important element, we learn to know and use it. It has no contraindications and in case of surplus  our body eliminates it very quickly both by the intestinal and viarenal routes . But be careful in case of kidney failure not to abuse it and in any case the doctor is our main contac
