Here comes the light avocado, minus 30% fat

This news fools me, it saddens me and amuses me at the same time: it fools me because I find it absurd to manipulate the products of nature to meet human dietary fixations, and besides we are already surrounded by false foods. Bread that is not bread (for heaven’s sake, I also use it), lightened butter, light sauces and so on. And there is also, they have been around for years, the selenium potatoes. But what about light avocado ? I mean… the least fat avocado?
With the avocado trend (an already unsustainable trend of its own), the Spanish company Isla Bonita has decided to meet the needs of those who love this tropical fruit(which originally would be a berry) but finds it too fat, inventing a diet avocado, a light avocado with thirty percent less fat. Those who have tried the fruit, which will be on mainly European markets starting next year, say that it is juicier (therefore it has more water), it ripens easily without darkening, and tastes like avocado. The problem is that depriving avocado even if partially of its fats makes it less interesting as a food from a nutritional point of view.

Avocado is not just any fruit: it is more caloric, has 160 calories per 100 grams, almost double that of a banana, but it has almost no sugar, as much as a mix of fibers and above all monounsaturated fats, such as those of olive oil. so to speak. It also has a pool of amino acids and minerals, including potassium, which makes it a very precious fruit, also suitable for diabetics and perfect for integrating vegan diets from a protein point of view.
Removing the good fats (I don’t know how) is a bit like removing the fat from chocolate. The result is something less palatable, less mellow, satisfying,  with the consequence that the consumer buys more and consumes more.
In fact, the company has made it known that this light avocado is ideal for smoothies, salads, soups, without spoiling the line.
But  wouldn’t it be better to eat less, but of the fruit in its entirety, than more, but of a fruit depleted of nutrients?
