Does hydroxycitric acid make you lose weight?

In recent times, supplements for weight loss based on hydroxycitric acid, a substance extracted from the rind of the Garcinia fruit or from the Hibiscus sabdariffa plant (the one from which Carcadè is obtained) are returning to the fore: according to the advertisements of these supplements, the hydroxycitric acid would have an antiobesity effect, acting on those processes that convert excess sugars in the diet into body fat. Other advertisements go further, depicting this substance as a powerful fat burner, which would be able to attack the fat mass, leading to a fast weight loss: obviously to promote the product they pack false testimonials and bogus interviews with celebrities, revealing that that would be the reason why they lose so easily weight. Obviously it is not true.
So let’s see what hydroxycitric acid is and if it really makes you lose weight.

HYDROXYCITRIC ACID, WHAT THE HELL IS IT?
Hydroxycitric acid or HCA is a derivative of citric acid, and contains a particular isomer, the (2 S , 3 R) -HCA, which inhibits pancreatic alpha amylase and intestinal alpha glucosidase, which are two enzymes that the body produces to digest and assimilate starches. By blocking this enzymatic activity, the body is unable to assimilate some types of carbohydrates, and therefore in theory it could not even convert them into fat. Other studies have pointed out that HCA also acts against another enzyme for lipid synthesis, thus carrying out a fat-burning action, and also lower leptin levels, favoring the sense of satiety. The problem is that it is one thing to talk about what it does, another to say that it definitely acts, in what doses, and so on.
To make you understand this, I will give you an example: if one day we discover that an acid contained in grapefruit is a powerful fat burner, because studies have been carried out in the laboratory, it is not certain that eating thirty grapefruits a day will make us lose weight.
