The well-known Chinese company Xiaomi has now made its way into the hearts of Europeans (and also in their markets). Their low-revenue policy (they said they don’t want to marginalize more than 5% on sales) is one of their strongest weapons. Another advantage that the company has is the community, strength and great feedback support. The latest move, however, that the smartphone manufacturer has applied is not liked that much.

According to a recent press release released by Xiaomi itself, from now on global and Chinese devices will no longer get along so well. In detail:

  • a Chinese device will not be able to run the Global ROMs (Beta and Stable)
  • a Global device will not be able to run Chinese ROMs (Stable and Developer)

The result of such an action? The brick of the telephone.

All this has an economic value not just: Xiaomi has now invested in the world outside China , and this involves various expenses (shipping, taxes, VAT). Removing sales from the global market to favor the Chinese one would first of all give a bad detailed account of sales, and also create damage to all those stores recently opened in the world (including two in Milan). Of course the internet has exploded into a general scream of dissent, but on the other hand the real geeks of the case – after unlocking the bootloader – will always be able to rely on those custom ROMs created by users, which perhaps could now come back into vogue (they had fallen in disuse due to the compatibility of global ROMs).
