Does the Detox or Detox Diet Work? Here is the 3 Days menu.
Many ask themselves, and to tell the truth, few know how to answer. But does the detox diet, or detox diet , work or not?
For this reason I did some research based on a detox diet based on a 3 day menu .
Here’s what I found.
Meanwhile, the term detoxification indicates the path that a person with alcohol or drug problems decides to follow.
During the detoxification process, the body is forced to expel toxins, such as alcohol or drugs, and then start fresh and clean again.
This gives addicts, whatever the addiction, the ability to start over by expelling toxins from their body.
A body free of toxins, however, is also the goal of those who are attentive to their body, to what feeds it and want to consciously reflect on what they are eating.
I get it then.
You want to eat healthier, so that you feel the need to get rid of all the junk food that fills your system and start over.
We all actually want that feeling of renewal that a detox diet promises us .
The health industry has completely exploded around the concept of detox including anything. From colon cleansing to yoga kits and so on.
In fact, it must be said that all the most effective diets are those that take into account your real characteristics starting from a detox phase.
But instead of detoxing in rehab like for serious detox, all these first aid kits are located between the supermarket and the pharmacy.
You don’t even need a prescription to start using them.
In short, are all these body cleansing kits valid or do they give us false hope?
First, let’s define what detox is.

What is detox?
A quick Google search gives me 430,000 results and a definition of detox that states, ” A process or period of time in which you abstain or rid your body of toxic or unhealthy substances .”
Two things stand out for me: there is no mention of weight loss and there is no clear definition of what toxins really are.
One definition tells us that a toxin is “an antigenic poison or poison of plant or animal origin, a product or derivative of microorganisms that cause disease when present in low concentrations in the body .”
But what are toxins?
What are the toxins?
Generic toxins are completely different from the toxins found in our bodies. The first category has to do with poisonous substances found in plants, animals, or even in high doses of certain medicines, alcohol and drugs.
However, the second category of toxins, according to Gaiam , can vary between:
- Environmental pollutants
- Silver / mercury dental amalgams
- Mercury in Pisces
- Lead from old paint
- Traces of aluminum present in deodorants
- Poor air quality
- Contaminated water or food
- UV radiation
- Allergic reactions
- High fructose corn syrup
- Processed foods
- Trans fats
Judging from this long list, I can understand why many people feel the need to detox. Without a detox, our bodies travel to addict’s paradise.
But wait a minute: Aren’t our bodies already designed to excrete and detoxify their bodies on their own?
Free the body of toxins
Technically our body always eliminates toxins . The kidneys, liver, intestines and lungs are constantly working to remove toxins and waste without even realizing it. If we didn’t have these natural filters we wouldn’t be able to survive.
Many people think sweating is a natural way to expel waste, but that’s not exactly correct. The American College of Sports Medicine explains that sweat is the body’s natural reaction to a rise in temperature.
The ACSM has studied sweat and knows it is made up of “water, sodium, and other substances that help cool the body.”
What are the other substances? Many people believe that these substances are toxins. Now, I honestly can’t imagine which toxin can have a positive and not a negative value to the point that it can help cool the body. We are talking about toxic substances and it would not make sense.
Still, yoga in high temperatures is quite the trend. Some of these places advertise how to get rid of toxins from your body by raising the temperature in yoga rooms up to 40 degrees . The idea is that if you turn up the heat that much, you lose weight and sweat and a lot of toxins.

Sweat was designed to cool our body not to expel toxins .
Looking for an answer, I came across this article from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
“Sweat is 99% water in combination with a small amount of salt, protein, carbohydrates and urea. Therefore, sweat is not made of toxins escaping from the body, and the belief that sweat can cleanse the body is a myth, ”according to family physician Charles Smith of the University of Arkansas.
Smith goes on to say: “By forcing the body to sweat through exposure to heat or heavy exercise, it is possible to cause kidney problems that will suffer from lack of water and therefore will try to conserve it and because of this they will no longer work to excrete toxins. but they will do exactly the opposite. “
So I guess this heat and sweat thing here doesn’t make a lot of sense. Let’s see the other types of detoxification possible.
Detoxification with juices, centrifuged and purifications
I don’t know if it happened to you but wandering around the internet I came across a documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead .
Believe me, I was fascinated by it.
The story of Joe Cross who tells of an overweight man who changes his lifestyle by drinking centrifuged and makes proselytes, above all he becomes friends with a truck driver who chooses to follow him on his purification diet and completely changes his metabolism with extraordinary results.
The first result it had on me is that I started spinning everything!
The juices, however, are actually used more to take in nutrients not so much to detoxify.
But here too many things are changing. A company like BluePrint has created a system of juices and smoothies that not only serve for nourishment but also for detoxification.
Let’s face it: does the detox diet work?
Harvard Health Publications explored another popular detox diet: the Master Cleanse .
To follow this diet here you have to start the day with a cup of warm salt water in the morning, drink a mixture of water, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon juice during the day and a cup of laxative tea at night.
It doesn’t look appetizing at all, I know.
Despite the clear lack of nutrients, the Master Cleanse should be repeated over a period of 10 to 15 days .
I don’t know about you, but to me this cleansing of the body seems like an excellent idea, especially if combined with a diet designed especially for you.
And the results, at best, can be, let’s say, neutral.
According to Harvard Medical School : “There is no reliable data on this type of diet in the medical literature.
But many studies have shown that suddenly lowering the metabolism can lead to weight loss but also to a large energy deficit.
Once the diet ends and we resume normal eating, our body also regains weight. “
So, instead of expelling toxins with these diets, we usually do nothing but suddenly lower our metabolism, so we lose weight, as already mentioned and just as quickly we get back this weight.
What about colon cleansing?
For starters, it is utterly ridiculous for anyone to attempt a colon cleanse at home given the risk factors for severe dehydration, loss of essential electrolytes, and impaired bowel function.
This type of procedure should only be done by a doctor and under professional medical assistance.
But, as I said, many of these purifications are sold in supermarket kits, other than medical prescriptions!
So the question is: do they work?
Most bowel cleaners on the market contain a combination of herbs, enzymes, and laxative teas, as noted by Harvard Medical School . The article pointed out that “there is no medical evidence for the cleansing procedure as a whole.”
And it’s not the only research to support this claim. The US National Library of Medicine states, “There is no preliminary evidence to suggest that certain foods such as coriander, nori and olestra have detoxifying properties, although most of these studies have been in animals, random controlled trials have been conducted. and certainly not to assert these studies as complete for the human being. “
This study was published on December 18, 2014. We still don’t have enough information to prove the effectiveness of detoxification.
A third source, LiveScience , interviewing Stella L. Volpe, a professor and chair of the nutrition science department at Drexel University in Philadelphia, found rather similar results.
She states: “ There is no scientific evidence that any of these so-called detox diets really cleanse and therefore benefit our body.”
According to Volpe, “Our livers and kidneys, if healthy, already do a great job of cleaning every day . “
Volpe recommends ” increasing fruit and vegetables, taking whole grains and drinking more water would already be an excellent source of cleansing our body .”
That said, the only detox I believe in is the one where our own internal organs are able to cleanse our body in absolute naturalness.
3 Day Detox Diet Menu
The typical 3-day diet (in this article I’m talking about the 5-day detox diet ) is generally considered the best program for eliminating toxins from the body.
It essentially consists of a vegetarian diet , or in its vegan version , consisting of fruit and vegetables, without forgetting an important intake of water.
This is because the program is aimed at “flushing out” those toxins (which I will explain later) thanks to the consumption of raw food and plenty of fresh water.
Here is my advice: the goal to pursue is a healthy diet every day to feel good every day.
First, start the day with a nice cup of hot water with a cool squeeze of lemon.
Lemon helps wake you up and serves to wake up the digestive tract as well.
The acidity of lemon juice stimulates the gastric system, which begins the overall detoxification process.
So, eat a breakfast that is high in protein and fiber.
This combination not only keeps you full of energy but also causes the body to remove the accumulated waste in the meantime.
Did I tell you that you drink a lot?
In fact, on the typical day of a detox diet, at least 8 glasses of low-sodium mineral water (see also detox water ) should be drunk (tap water is not good).
This facilitates the expulsion of toxins from the body through the urine.
A cup of chamomile tea or fennel tea is recommended before bed and will act as a natural tonic for the liver and kidneys.
For lunch and dinner, eat lots of green leafy vegetables .
These vegetables are rich in folic acid, B vitamins, and antioxidants that aid in the natural detoxification process.
Also include 2-3 servings of fresh fruit, and consume whole grains throughout the day so that you have enough energy.

Milk thistle excellent for liver, kidney and gallbladder
Milk thistle is an herb that helps support the liver, kidneys and gallbladder.
It does not detoxify on its own but helps improve the functionality of your internal organs.
The liver, in particular, is responsible for filtering out the substances that are present in fats and therefore it is important to keep it healthy.
According to Harvard Medical School, “Several studies suggest milk thistle can improve liver function.
I take my thistle milk with my vitamins in the morning and I’m good to go.
So before you start spending money on detox kits why not just start eating healthy?
Have you tried a detox? What was your experience like?
