What are obesogenic or fattening substances?

What are obesogenic substances?

These are elements (in the environment, in food preservation, in personal hygiene) that tend to make us fat because they function as ” endocrine disruptors ” or perturbers.

That is, these are substances that contain molecules that interfere with our hormonal balance.

In the category of obesogenic substances we find, for example, plastic (bottles, plates and glasses or cutlery, but also film for food), some dyes or food additives, many chemicals present both in food and obviously in drugs and supplements, but also in make-up, hairspray, cosmetics and personal hygiene products, and finally many “external” substances, ie pollutants that we take home when we come back from work.

Here are 8 rules of thumb to reduce obesogenic substances according to the recent congress of the European Society of Endocrinology which was held recently in Barcelona.

OBESOGENOUS SUBSTANCES: HOW TO REDUCE THEM IN ORDER TO NOT Grease

  1. Take off your shoes (and coat, jacket, etc.) when you get home.

This way you avoid that the dirt of the air that has deposited on the clothes and the dirt of the asphalt under the soles of the shoes contaminate the environment in which you live, in which you sleep and eat.

  2. Choose only 100% natural and organic supplements and do not take a drug unless needed.

If you are one of those who rush to the pill at the first sign of discomfort, try more natural remedies first. An herbal tea, a massage, ten minutes of relaxation. Medicines should not be avoided, but should only be used when really needed, not fresh water.

  3. Eat fruits and vegetables that are as free of pesticides as possible.

Buy organic or local fruits and vegetables, and to get rid of pesticides, use this natural system.

  4. Vacuum at least once a day and thoroughly clean rugs and various upholstery.

The coverings of cushions, curtains and carpets accumulate dust and pollutants. At the same time, remember to vacuum at least once a day.

  5. Buy eco-friendly detergents if you can, or make them yourself.

If you are one of those who pass three thousand household cleaning products, buy loose detergents from organic, or make them at home. You save a lot of money. Here a guide.

  6. Yes to glass and aluminum, no to plastic.

Avoid buying food stored in plastic jars, water in plastic bottles, plastic containers for food storage. Better then to opt for glass, ceramic, steel for cooking.

  7. Choose cosmetics and personal hygiene products that are organic and with a good INCI.

A list of simple and natural ingredients also for cosmetics, soaps, deodorants and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner.

  8. Don’t eat too many industrial products.

Follow this simple rule. If the ingredient list contains at least two names that you don’t know what they mean , don’t buy that product and pass the fear. Not all substances with names with acronyms and numbers are harmful, but some are, and avoid them first.
