These gut bacteria make you live longer

Some gut bacteria linked to longevity also reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and inflammatory disease. This is the discovery of the Ohio State University researchers, who in a study compared the different compositions of their bacterial flora on a sample of 84 Italian adults.
Among the subjects also a group of centenarians.

Compared to the youngest but also to the adults of 40 years and to the elderly people (over 65 but not centenarians), the researchers have in fact noticed in the centenarians the presence of intestinal bacteria that would reduce the risk of inflammation and disease.

THESE INTESTINAL BACTERIA MAKE YOU LIVE LONGER

Basically, the researchers found that there are no major differences in the bacterial flora between young people, adults and those over 65. Instead, major differences were seen when comparing the composition of their intestinal bacteria with that of centenarians. Centenarians, for example, show more Bacilli than other age groups.

Among these differences, some classes of bacteria are linked to a lower production of cytokines, inflammatory substances that are part of our immune system.

But what are these bacteria?
Well, the role of butyric acid is confirmed not only to have a healthier metabolism, but also to live longer and with less inflammatory and cardiovascular risks. In fact, the bacteria produced by butyrate would make the difference between the intestines of centenarians and that of people of other age groups. In particular, butyrate would cause an increase in the bacterium Eubacterium limosum , which is found in high concentrations in the bacterial flora of centenarians.

HOW TO GET CENTENARIAN BACTERIAL FLORA?

Again, then, being able to increase the production of butyric acid in the gut could be the key to living longer, with a better metabolism and immune system. In short, the secret of iron health.

But how to increase butyrate?
On Dcomedieta I have published studies on this short-chain acid. For example, it has been seen that potato starch increases its concentration in the intestine . Which would explain why many people have lost so much weight just by doing a “potato diet”. But at the same time, even if they take small doses, it seems important to increase the consumption of foods that naturally contain butyric acid. In this article I’ll explain what they are.
