The Paleo diet: the caveman’s diet

Here is a typical American family that has embraced the principles of the paleo diet.

You have heard of it, in the United States it is depopulated, and if you have not heard of it where the hell do you live, in caves? But if you live in caves then maybe you already eat like that. I’m talking about the Paleo diet, paleo diet or paleolithic diet , which we can summarize in the phrase: eat as in the time of our ancestors, or the Flintstones, those of the cartoons.
Yes, it is a diet that more or less advises us to go back to basics, starting from the assumption that modern man did not differ so much from the caveman, and that if he ate like a caveman he would be more in tune with nature and the like. But stop the chatter and find out with your D. the advantages and disadvantages of this diet. Unlike many diets that I will gradually put in this nice blog, this one D. has not tried the Paleo diet , so more this time she cannot give you advice based on her direct experience, but make a reflection with you and for you.
The Paleo diet or Paleolithic diet has several schools of thought, which however revolve around common elements. First of all, all derived, artificial, refined foods are stigmatized and banned. Bread and pasta no. What, the cavemen ate bread, pasta, snacks? No. Same thing with dairy products, all those processed products. Throw away mercilessly. Forget all refinement, in all senses.

Here is what the Paleo diet is based on:
– Eat meat (especially wild, if you can find it), fish, crustaceans and shellfish. Prefer the fattest cuts and the meat of ruminants, ask the butcher about how the animals are foraged. I am not joking. Either this or nothing.
– Eat fruits and vegetables, seeds, oil seeds, nuts.
– Do not eat: milk and dairy products.
– Don’t drink alcohol.
– Do not eat: legumes and cereals.
– Do not eat: sugars and fats apart from those naturally occurring in nature.
– Eat protein: carbohydrates that do not come from starches, come only from fruits and vegetables, at least from potatoes. It’s not like a high-protein diet, but it’s basically a low-carb diet.

Now, among the most accredited versions of Paleodieta is that of Loren Cordain , a nutritionist but also a scholar of prehistory. The diet, which more than a weight loss diet is a diet regime (it’s not that you do it and stop, you do it for your whole life), is also associated with a philosophy and a certain ethical choice of living: taking positions, for heaven’s sake, so modern man hasn’t changed that much from prehistoric man, technology is a black beast, refined foods are all bad, because a grown man should drink milk and so on.
In short, the paleo diet is a diet for those who want to revolutionize their lifestyle , even making sacrifices. There are many sites that suggest menus and recipesaccording to the principles of the paleo diet. In addition, there is research that has established that refined foods are bad for your health. So let’s not talk about total nonsense, but only partial, as I show you here . The point remains one, in my opinion, that is to believe it. I am opposed in principle to all diets that impose limitations, assuming that we would also be close to our Flintstones as DNA, but they ate what they could collect and procure, thank goodness we have more choic

. According to many detractors of the diet, the paleo diet requires food sacrifices whose benefits are not proven. You could risk malnutrition, and an intake of animal proteins and fats that could be bad for your health. Furthermore, if on the one hand I understand who has a farm, goes hunting and fishing and therefore knows where their animal proteins come from, modern man would be more punished by a fashion than directed towards a truly natural diet. I mean, it’s okay to eat the products of nature, but completely eliminating cereals, legumes, bread and pasta, including wholemeal variants, seems to me an exaggeration. If you do not want to eat refined foods, you are only doing well, but do not chastise yourself by eliminating the whole grain too. A little salt is fine, cane sugar is fine, a greater use of wholemeal flours, seeds, legumes and cereals (spelled, millet) in your diet is fine. It’s okay to avoid industrial confectionery and make a nice homemade dessert. But the exaggerations rather than prevent disease seem to me only fashionable or harmful. This is why I include it among the diets no . (And I won’t try it).
