The ketogenic diet for the obese

The ketogenic diet for the obese

Whenever I talk about the ketogenic diet, I specify that, like any other dietary approach, the ketogenic diet must be discussed and done with the help of a doctor. If you are obese or very overweight, this indication is essential: your general practitioner, or a dietician (who is a doctor) can guide you towards a correct ketogenic diet (low carbohydrates, many fats and moderate proteins) and then take care of the phase maintenance, so you can reintroduce carbohydrates little by little without letting you regain the weight you lost and then get to your maintenance path.
The advantages of the ketogenic diet for obese or heavily overweight are three:
– faster weight loss in the short term
– reduction of the sense of hunger
– normalization of blood glucose and other parameters of the metabolic syndrome

In this article we see an example of a ketogenic diet protocol for the obese to be followed in one of the medical centers authorized for the program.  The program is called Ketostation , and offers three paths: the second is indicated only for patients who have to undergo a gastric band operation, but the first path (classic path) is the one I will talk about in this article. Designed for severely overweight or obese patients, it is a low-calorie  and ketogenic   path (from 800 to 1100 calories) that lasts a maximum of 12 weeks and allows you to lose about 7 kilos per month (after which a maintenance diet or a maintenance period is required. before facing a new cycle: in the program it is step 4).
The protocol includes some supplements to more easily reach a state of physiological ketosis. The Ketostation Classic path includes four phases. A ketogenic diet phase, a moderate or maintenance ketogenic diet phase, a moderate low carb diet phase and a diet re-education phase. The authorized medical centers are located throughout Italy for those wishing to follow this protocol and you can find them on this page. It is also possible to follow the Ketostation protocol if you cannot reach these centers, with the help of your doctor. Are there other routes or the possibility of doing a ketogenic diet without the use of food supplements? The answer is yes,

but always followed by a doctor and very carefully.

On this page you will find the references of other doctors who follow the ketogenic diet protocol for obese or overweight, but beware: the ketogenic diet is a slimming path but it is obviously not the only one suitable for those who are obese or overweight. For this reason, whether you want to follow a ketogenic diet or you want to lose weight, if you are critically overweight, the opinion of a doctor is necessary.
