Intermittent fasting is an increasingly popular practice in recent years .

And finally, to the news that reported the release of many books on intermittent fasting and of many people, including the brains of Silicon Valley , who sponsored it.

But does intermittent fasting make you lose more weight than a normal diet?

This is what the German researchers at the head of the HELENA project wondered , namely the scientists of the  German Cancer Research Center and the Heidelberg Hospital University . Who studied the differences in terms of weight lost between those who did intermittent fasting to lose weight and those who followed another dietary protocol. Results?

Also the Germans, in a previous study, had expressed doubts about the validity of intermittent fasting for weight loss. Researchers from the German Nutrition Society had warned people who wanted to lose weight that intermittent fasting wasn’t for everyone.

And that there was a lack of long-term studies and appreciable population samples to be able to say that eating in a window of a few hours a day helped to lose weight more.
From these considerations the HELENA project was born, which examined 150 people who wanted to lose weight and followed them for a year. The patients were divided into three groups.

One did the 5: 2 diet with twenty percent fewer daily calories on a weekly basis, one dieted with twenty percent fewer daily calories but could eat whenever he wanted, the other a balanced plan would not. low calorie.
Result?
The first two groups lost weight equally , and their health parameters were also similar.
Therefore intermittent fasting would not give any more advantage to lose weight.
Quite simply, there are those who find it an easier method to lose weight.
