If I delete WhatsApp, what happens?
Let’s answer some of the most common questions about the world’s most popular instant messaging application today. Let’s start with a more general question: if I delete WhatsApp, what happens? The cases can be different. Below, you can find some answers to the problems you may encounter when deleting the app from your mobile. Do others still see me? Do I miss the conversations? Do I leave the groups? Do I still get the messages? What if I delete WhatsApp and redeem it?
There are several reasons that lead us to say ” enough, delete WhatsApp “. There are those who no longer want to receive all these messages. Who wants to “hide” something. Who did it by mistake. Or who knows what other reasons. Then, in some cases, you change your mind and doubts arise: what now? Let’s see what happens:
NB To delete your WhatsApp account go to Settings -> Accounts -> Delete account . Thus the account will be deleted with all the consequences that we explain below. The situation is different if you delete the app but not the account. In this case, first read the answer to question # 6.
# 1. If I delete WhatsApp, will others still see me?
The answer to this question is: yes and no. By uninstalling the application from your phone, other contacts will continue to see your name in the WhatsApp contact list but, in reality, it is as if you no longer connect to them. Let’s take an example: if Antonio decides to unsubscribe from WhatsApp, his friend Maria will see as the last access (if active) updated at the moment in which it was decided to delete the app. Your profile photo and status will also remain the same as they were before unsubscribing, unless you have changed them before. Your friends will be able to continue to send you messages (which does not happen if you block someone) but they will only ever see a gray tick, which indicates that the message was sent but not read.
#2. If I delete WhatsApp, do I lose my conversations?
Here, too, the answer to this question is not unique. The answer tends to be “no, you don’t lose conversations”, but it depends on the type of phone on which we have installed WhatsApp and if, for some models, we have created a backup copy of the chats before deleting the application. The only certainty is that it is possible not to lose the conversations, but only those concerning the last week (in this case the last before deleting the app). A solution to not lose conversations is to send them by email or follow the steps for recovery. We analyzed both of these possibilities in the article “ how to recover conversations… ”.
# 3. If I delete WhatsApp, do I leave the groups?
Yes, when you delete the application from your phone it is as if you decide to leave all the groups you belong to. Other contacts will see the notification “XXX has left the group” and if you decide to reinstall WhatsApp you will NOT be automatically re-entered.
# 4. If I delete WhatsApp, do I still get messages?
This question is as common as it is ambiguous, it depends on what is meant by messages. If the question is related you have messages on WhatsApp, the answer is no. If you delete the app you will no longer receive messages and you will not see them even if you decide to reinstall the app. If the question refers to normal text messages (SMS) then the answer is yes. WhatsApp has nothing to do with the application that handles normal phone messages and the two are absolutely independent.
# 5. What if I delete WhatsApp and redeem it? What happens?
This is one of the most common cases and is broken down into several sub-questions which should be answered individually. The first question is this: If I delete WhatsApp and re-upload it, do the conversations remain or are they deleted? The conversations are deleted, but it is possible to recover them by following the right procedure suitable for the type of phone we use. Another sub-question: if I delete WhatsApp and redeem it, do I have to pay again? The cost of WhatsApp is a complex one. Generally speaking, the answer is no, but it depends on the phone number on which we reinstall the app (see: WhatsApp cost details ). Actually, deleting and re-downloading WhatsApp is also a way to get the free application for life
Another thing that happens when you delete and download WhatsApp again is that you will have the app updated to the latest version available. Actually, you do n’t need to delete WhatsApp to update . But it is always an option.
# 6. What if I delete the WhatsApp app but not my account?
This question is crucial. As mentioned before, it is different to cancel the app or permanently delete the account. All the cases we have examined so far concern the second option: deleting the account, which means going to the Settings , then to Accounts and clicking on Delete account . If, on the other hand, you simply decide to delete the app (but without deleting the account) then the matter changes. In this case, only the answer to question 1 applies. All other cases are different.
By installing the application again, in fact, all the info (profile picture, messages, groups and conversations) will be restored at the moment in which it was decided to delete the app, provided that the new installation takes place without changing the phone number or SIM.
