Have you ever been afraid that someone will peek at your WhatsApp chats, perhaps while you are sending in a message? Do you think someone in the family can pick up your phone and start peeking at your conversations? Here is the solution, a simple trick that allows you to hide WhatsApp conversations  that you don’t want to show to anyone.

The procedure is as simple as it is little used: it is the ability to archive conversations . Let’s see how to do it and how to retrieve them to read them later.

To archive a chat, follow the steps below depending on your smartphone’s operating system.

Hide WhatsApp conversation on iPhone

1. Open the WhatsApp application in the main menu.
2. On the chats screen, swipe left on the contact you want to hide
3. Click on Archive .

By selecting Archive , the conversation of the selected contact or group from the main screen and will no longer be visible when you open WhatsApp.

The archived conversation is moved to the “Archived Chats” folder which can be viewed at the top of the conversation list.

You can also hide WhatsApp groups by following the same procedure.

Note : The archived chat will be visible again on the main chat screen as soon as you receive a message from the contact or group you hid. So, if you receive a message, the chat will no longer be archived.

You can also archive / hide all chats at once by clicking on Settings   -> Chats -> Archive all chats .

How to make a hidden chat reappear on iPhone

• Swipe up in  the   main chat where all chats are listed. Select  archived chats. 
• Swipe left  on the chat of the contact you want to show on the main screen.
• Click on  Extract .

The chat of the contact you archived will start showing on the main chat screen and will no longer be hidden.

Hide WhatsApp conversations on Android (and Windows)

The procedure for  hiding WhatsApp chats is more or less the same for Android and Windows. Here’s how to proceed:

1. Open WhatsApp on the main screen
2. Long press on the chat or group you want to hide and click on the Archive icon .

If you want to restore an archived chat , just go to “Archived chats” at the bottom of the conversation list. Long press on the chat you want to deactivate and then click Extract.

How to hide multiple chats at the same time

On iPhone / iPad:

1. Open WhatsApp and click  Edit at the top left of the screen where all conversations are displayed.
2. Select all chats you want to hide / archive.
3. Click on Archive (bottom left)

On Android:

1. Open WhatsApp and long press on one of the contacts.
2. Select the contacts you want to hide and click on  the Archive icon (top center).

Done, you have archived multiple chats at the same time.
