In the last few hours, The Wall Street Journal has been circulating a rumor that Google is working on a new headset for virtual reality.
According to what some people close to the story would report, the company Alphabet Inc. Google would be developing a new “all-in-one” headset that will not have to depend on a PC, smartphone or console. This new device could represent the first independent example of this rapidly growing sector.
Furthermore, again according to the statements of these sources, Google would have in mind to release, by the end of the year, an advanced version of the cardboard ; an inexpensive virtual reality headset that uses the smartphone as a screen. This new viewer, unlike the cardboard already available, will include chips and sensors.
Last month, Google named Clay Bavor as the first head of the Virtual Reality section. These are the statements of him during a conference a few days ago:
“Since the beginning we have been involved in making VR headsets accessible to all, we will have new things to share by the end of the year.”
It is not yet clear when the viewer will be unveiled; according to one of the sources, the viewer could be announced this year , while two other sources have specified that the project is still in an embryonic state and Google may decide not to release it.
