Digestion, constipation, allergies? Giulia Enders explains them to uS
The health of our intestine is becoming increasingly important for science in the knowledge of the human body and the mechanisms that regulate it: the intestine would in fact be a real “second brain”, and the bacterial flora would depend, as recent research reveals , not only the efficiency of our digestion, but also our metabolism, our immune defenses, the risks of numerous diseases, general health, from skin to energy levels, and even our mood . One thing that is known, for example, is that the intestine of a thin man differs from that of a fat man from a bacterial point of view.: the intestinal flora would not only not be the same, but would even influence the way in which our body would assimilate food, extracting the nutrients to live in health and transforming it into energy to burn. A sick or inefficient intestine as we believe cannot provide the body with adequate nutrients, and worse, it transforms food not into available calories to burn, but into unused resources. So what? Our extra pounds.
At this point you will say: but then just try to change bacterial flora and we’re fine! Alas, not so soon. The answer is not simply to binge on yogurt, fruit and vegetables to have a healthier intestine, but to try to understand, exactly how we would do and do with other parts of the body, how our intestine works , and all the techniques to keep it healthy.
From this point of view, this book can help us: it is called “The happy intestine” , it is published by Sonzogno, and it was written by Giulia Enders, a very acute recent PhD student in medical biology at the Institute of Microbiology of the Goethe University from Frankfurt and future gastroenterologist.
Her goal? Let us know how our gut works in simple and clear words, thus unraveling many of the doubts that we often have but which, given the delicacy of the subject (with how many can we talk about our feces or our stomach acid?), perhaps until now we had not dared to ask. What’s more, some nice illustrations cheer up the pages of Enders if we can say so, helping to make this book a text that is easy (and continuous) to consult. From the best way to sit on the toilet to why we suffer from certain allergies , from the 3 day rule for constipation sufferers to the importance of saliva, this book is a must have.
Also consider that there are still few books in Italian that help us really understand more about this fascinating topic, and this is also the reason why you shouldn’t miss Enders’ essay. Which is not only instructive, but in its own way, in addition to teaching, entertains us and at the end of the reading it provides us with really useful tips to transform our intestines into a more efficient and well-bodied machine.
In short, if you have a swollen stomach, drowsiness after lunch, or you are wondering why you are craving for dessert after a few meals or if you prefer butter oil, now you have no more excuses.
Enders is there to explain it to you.
