Carnitine for weight loss: does it work?
Many people have asked me if I know of any substances that increase metabolism, and some in particular have asked me about carnitine and fenugreek. On fenugreek, I can tell you that it does not increase metabolism, but appetite, and refer you to this article where I talk about it .
On carnitine the discourse is more complex, and these are my considerations.
Does carnitine make you lose weight?
In theory, yes, because this amino acid promotes the functionality of cellular mitochondria in the management of fats and therefore favors the correct functioning of the metabolism.
In practice, however, it has been seen that the effect on weight loss does not occur in all cases.
Carnitine is an amino acid present in many foods but which we can also take as a supplement, and which is sold in pharmacies in products such as Carnitene or as a supplement simply under the name Carnitine or L-Carnitine or Acetyl-L Carnitine. In general, depending on the type of diet and the subject who must use it, it can have different effects. There are some studies that have established that carnitine makes you lose weight, but that it specifically works more in certain contexts, while in others it does not significantly promote weight loss.
So before you buy carnitine, read this article.Â
