Bonsai, an art and a therapy
Growing a bonsai plant is not something for everyone: it takes patience, dedication and a lot of will. This is how this ancient oriental art can become a full-fledged therapy.
Bonsai , the tree in the cup :  from China to Japan as early as 700 years AD , bonsai – which literally means “tree or plant in the cup or tray” – arrives in the West and spreads like a fashion decades ago.
However, only recently has it been recognized as a real therapy.
This is demonstrated by the study of a psychologist who has experienced it firsthand .
Here is how what is much more than a hobby therapy , that is a wellness therapy in all respects, makes itself known and, with its different trees, invites you to be practiced.
To prove its effectiveness is a specific study reported by the Research Gate magazine  according to which, the art of bonsai would help on a psychological level , to free oneself from states of anxiety and
to strengthen the spirit of will.
Here are the main reasons
The art of the search for well-being
Art , in all its forms, has always been recognized as a tool for psychotherapeutic intervention and for mental health and well-being :  in fact, think of how much, in this sense, painting
or poetic art can be.
Practicing the activity of gardening , in the same way, has always been shown to bring great benefits, both mental and physical, but it has never been seen precisely as a psychological therapy tool.Â
As evidenced by the study conducted by psychologist Caroll Hermann – herself, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, has greatly benefited from practicing bonsai therapy , which she talks about in her blog with the emblematic title, Bonsaichology -, practicing the art of bonsai is not it is mere gardening, but it is to be understood as an art therapy reinterpreted in a vase , an art that the practitioner himself can move around him.
In this study, the activity of more than 250 people who started practicing this oriental art was observed.Â

Who is bonsai therapy recommended for?Â
What emerged was that factors such as the spiritual aspect, patience and quality of life , examined as scale values, were extremely positive.
Almost 95% of the people surveyed have in fact outlined improvements in the person’s general state since she started working on these small trees.
But what are , in fact , the advantages of bonsai therapy ?
> First of all that it is more affordable for everyone than, for example, pet therapy .
>Â Â Secondly, you don’t need expensive toolsor particular and therefore well suited to patients in hospital in psychiatric hospitals, elderly people in nursing homes, orphanages or prisons.
> Thirdly, it is a not at all tiring hobby , so it can also be practiced by those people who struggle, due to various pathologies, to perform other jobs or play sports.Â
Do you want to try? Arm yourself with a good book, some tools and… A lot of patience!
Yes, because it takes about three years before the bonsai begins to take shape , which, far from being a negative element, does nothing but train patience, fortitude and will.
