Main dog tail disorders: natural cures and remedies
The most common ailments that can affect the dog’s tail are:
- Abrasions. A dog’s tail can suffer superficial injuries when, for example, it rubs against the ground, or gets stuck in gates and small crevices. Often it can be the dog himself who injures himself, biting the thing himself. In any case, it is possible to understand if there are abrasions if there is a hair loss. When the abrasions are minor, it is possible to disinfect the wound and treat it with a solution consisting of 10 drops of Calendula mother tincture and two tablespoons of water.
- Blow injuries. If when the dog repeatedly beats its tail on a hard surface , the tail can swell, injure itself or even break. To reduce pain and inflammation, the first thing to do is to apply an ice pack for 10 minutes, every 20 minutes of rest. Then it is possible to make a bandage to be applied for an hour up to 3 times a day, made of three handfuls or more of dried mallow flowers and leaves soaked for 30 minutes in 2 cups of hot water. Mallow has an anti-inflammatory, refreshing and anti-swelling action .
- “Stallion’s tail” : it is so called because it is a more frequent pathology in non-castrated males . It is an inflammation of the upper part of the tail, a few centimeters from its base, where there are a fair number of sebaceous glands. Under an exaggerated hormonal stimulus they produce excess sebum , become inflamed, frequently infected and give a terrible discomfort that turns into real pain to the touch. In these cases the dressings are difficult because the dog’s reaction is strong. On the first day, it’s best to just try to get rid of the inflammationspraying the medicine which consists in mixing 20 drops of Calendula mother tincture in 50 ml of water, shake well and spray the preparation on the part 3-4 times a day. When the dog, feeling less pain, allows itself to be touched, cut the hair around the injured part well, clean with a gauze soaked in a teaspoon of Uncaria tomentosa hydroalcoholic extract and 2 teaspoons of water, let it dry and then put the Bach Agrimony flowers , Crab Apple and Holly (1 drop of each) in a teaspoon of Aloe vera gel and pass it 2-3 times over the lesion. In case of infection, brush the part with propolis.
