Mycosis in dogs and cats

What is mycosis

Mycoses are caused by microscopic fungi that spread around or inside the single hair, alter its structure and cause it to fall.

Symptoms of mycosis

The infection of mycosis occurs through the spores that spread in the environment , therefore it is not necessary to have direct contact to have the symptoms of the disease.

These mushrooms are very common in the environment and we come into contact with them very often. They take over and symptoms occur only when the body has a decline in defenses due to other diseases or, more frequently, due to organic or mental stress.

Mycoses can appear in the form of small scabs in the area around the neck, hair that comes off in bunches, worms in the coat . In particular, rounded areas must be considered, completely hairless (alopecic areas) in which the skin is intact, without inflammation at the edges of which the hair detaches at the slightest traction.

This type of injury can occur all over the body, but is most often found on the head, ears, neck, or legs.

Dog mycosis: prevention and natural remedies

To treat a dog’s mycosis , first of all you need to strengthen the body with good quality food and a highly bioavailable multivitamin.

Supplements of biospirulin or kelp algae , mixed with food and which are well accepted by the dog, are also fine.

Spirulina is a single- celled blue algae that owes its name to the characteristic spiral shape. Particularly rich in proteins , lipids and vitamins, as well as being an excellent nutritional supplement, it is also a highly digestible food, thanks to its non-cellulosic cell wall of the protein mucus type.

The main components are proteins (consisting of all essential amino acids), lipids, vitamins, mineral salts (excluding iodine) and carbohydrates. The daily dosage is 25 mg for every 10 kg of weight .

If the mycosis is localized and identified in the early stages of onset, even a single local treatment with specific natural topical products can be done. It is therefore good to subject the dog to an energetic anti-fungal shampoo.

On the market there are specific ones based on tea tree . On the alopecic patches, instead, propolis and tea tree should be put, or cumin and rosemary 2-3 times a day until the hair reappears. On the market there are oily preparations with the right proportion of these essential oils for topical use.

Cat mycosis: prevention and natural remedies

To cure cat mycosis, the body must be strengthened with good quality food and a highly bioavailable multivitamin.

Also in this case, as for the dog, integrations of biospirulin or kelp algae, mixed with food and which are well accepted by the cat, are also fine. Spirulina is a single-celled blue algae that owes its name to the characteristic spiral shape. Particularly rich in proteins, lipids and vitamins, as well as being an excellent nutritional supplement, it is also a highly digestible food, thanks to its non-cellulosic cell wall of the protein mucus type.

The daily dosage is 25 mg. If the mycosis is localized and identified in the early stages of onset, even a single local treatment with specific natural products can be done.

It is good to subject the cat (even if it is not that easy) to an energetic anti-fungal shampoo . On the market there are specific ones based on tea tree. On the alopecic patches, instead, propolis should be put and tea tree should be put, or cumin and rosemary 2-3 times a day until the hair reappears. On the market there are oily preparations with the right proportion of these essential oils for topical use.
