Precious ginger, an important spice in Ayurveda
The next time we travel, if we suffer from motion sickness, sea sickness or air sickness, let’s not forget to bring with us a piece of ginger, a precious spice also in Ayurvedic medicine.
In well-stocked kitchens, spice jars look like magical ingredients available to cooks to make dishes even more special. With skilful gestures, often secret doses and well-chosen combinations, these perfumed substances are omnipresent in gastronomy across the globe.
Yet their properties are not only food, so much so that since ancient times they were used far beyond the confines of pantries: from medicine to pharmacy for millennia many remedies (and sometimes still today) are based on spices.
One of the pillars of ancient Ayurvedic science is ginger , a plant truly full of properties : let’s discover its many uses together!
Ginger: many properties in one plant
The main property attributed to ginger is related to the stimulation of all metabolic and digestive activities . It is thus used for problems such as vomiting, nausea, swelling, lack of appetite, some types of gastritis, diarrhea etc.
Equally effective, but perhaps less well known, is its use for diseases of the respiratory system such as laryngitis and  colds as well as to relieve generic flu . Â
Since ginger is a kapha dosha inhibitor it is considered a good fat burner, as well as working effectively against muscle pain and cramps; antibacterial and anti-inflammatory , this spice is a real panacea for health and no wonder it is one of the most used in Ayurvedic medicine.
