Gut microbiota: one day is enough to change
Just one day is enough to change your intestinal microbiota: this is the conclusion reached by researchers at Harvard University , who discovered that in just 24 hours of diet there is a change in the bacterial flora , both positive and negative. negative.
To find out, the researchers fed a group of people a range of foods that are friendly to the good bacteria of the gut microbiota, or pushed them to consume more fruit and vegetables, probiotics, legumes such as peas and lentils, rice and muesli. breakfast in six days. They subsequently studied the bacterial composition of their gut microbiota, discovering a greater amount of good bacteria than at the start of the study; then they modified their diet, prompting them to eat lots of processed meats like bacon and hamburgers, fried food and cheeses for another six days. On the first day of the diet change, the researchers took stool samples for analysis.
And they found that after just 24 hours of the “fast food” diet, the participants’ bacterial flora was seriously compromised, with an increase in bad bacteria, including one believed to be responsible for the onset of colitis in mice, and probably also in humans. Since previous studies have reiterated the importance of a healthy intestinal microbiota to lose weight, reduce health problems and stay fit, from today we also know that from the first day we improve our eating habits (for example by doing two fruit snacks a day and including two large portions of vegetables between lunch and dinner and in the morning using a probiotic), we immediately do something good for our well-being. And at the same time, a full day of mischief is enough to worsen our situation!
