The Life 120 diet by Adriano Panzironi

It took a while for me to be able to read Adriano Panzironi’s book, namely “Vivere 120 anni. The truths that no one wants to tell you “ .

This is for two reasons.
The first is that, far be it from me to criticize the sequel to Panzironi, I wanted to have the time to read the whole book before expressing myself, and not talk about it by reading extracts that dealt only with food. In this case it is easy to win, since the diet at least in the choice of foods is essentially a Paleo diet, apart from the addition of some cheeses.

The second is this: having read a lot of things that did not apply to me on a scientific level, I had to have time to read all the studies on the subject. And since the book has a long popular part before it gets to the actual diet talk, it required more research.

In this article we see what Adriano Panzironi’s Life 120 diet is, the pros and cons, both from a nutritional and scientific point of view. If you just want to understand what you eat, go to page 4.

THE LIFE 120 DIET BY ADRIANO PANZIRONI

DIET LIFE 120 AND THE HISTORY OF THE PRIMITIVE / MODERN MAN

Let’s start with the dietary premise.
Panzironi, journalist, makes a comparison between the current modern diet and that of our primitive ancestors.
Basically, he explains, today we eat about 60% carbohydrates, especially from industrially processed sources of complex carbohydrates (biscuits, snacks, pasta, bread, crackers), with 20% fat and 20% protein.

Here, this breakdown is not precise. In the Mediterranean diet, 25-35% of fats and less proteins are consumed, carbohydrates range from 55 to 65%. What is certain, he explains, is that primitive man essentially consumed meat, indeed, the whole animal, complete with offal (which to us, in general, are disgusting, but they are an optimal source of vitamins and mineral salts, for example vitamin K2), vegetables and fruits or nuts.

So is there a difference between modern and primitive nutrition?

Obviously there is, but if you asked me, I would say that the real difference is between the type of food, not in the breakdown of macronutrients.
Once more natural foods were eaten, today not.
