York chocolate cat

The York Chocolate is a big cat with a medium-long, soft and shiny coat. In Europe it is not very widespread, although sought after by feline admirers. One of its peculiar characteristics is that it loves water very much and can get wet.

Origins of the York Chocolate Cat

The York Chocolate breed is very recent and was selected in the United States by a New York breeder, Janet Chiefari in 1983. Ten years later it was recognized by the feline certification bodies.

This cat originated from a kitten from a litter of unknown origin, with a chocolate brown color, called by the breeder Brownie and after various selections the breed was presented in the Siamese
lineage .

Morphology of the York Chocolate Cat

York Chocolate is characterized by a chocolate brown coat , with areas of white on the chest, neck, sometimes on the front legs as if they were gloves. Its size places it among the medium-
large cats, the male can reach 8 kg while the female about 5 kg.

The head is round with a long nose , almond-shaped eyes with a hazelnut color, or green or golden yellow. The front legs have five
toes, while the rear ones have four.

Psychology of the York Chocolate Cat

The York Chocolate is a very affectionate cat , almost morbid towards its owner, so much so that it follows him like a shadow. In fact, it is no coincidence that the York Chocolate cat is nicknamed satellite cat , because he always finds himself in the orbit of his family member and draws their attention with noisy purrs. With strangers, on the other hand, he behaves in a very reserved, almost shy way.

It is a cat suitable for living in an apartment , very intelligent and balanced.

York Chocolate Cat Care

It is a long-lived breed , life expectancy is around 20 years. It does not require special care, if not the care of the hair, with weekly brushing, considering the similar long hair. He needs to vent his energy with running or recreational activities with his owner.

If he is bored he tends to eat a lot, it is therefore necessary to take care of his diet so that it is balanced to prevent any conditions of overweight . You may develop heart disease from muscle thickening, such as arrhythmias, pulmonary edema or thrombosis.
