It’s been a year since Apple canceled the debut of its wireless charging mat, the AirPower , and according to leaker Jon Prosser , the Cupertino house has resumed development of the project. However, there is no guarantee that the accessory will ever be released to the market. In a recent tweet, Prosser said Apple engineers are attempting to redesign the mat’s charging coils in order to move heat more effectively, adding that prototyping is underway.
Introduced in 2017 along with the “revolutionary” iPhone X , the AirPower would have been able to charge the smartphone, the Apple Watch and the AirPods at the same time , regardless of their position on the mat. Also, the battery percentage of each device would be displayed on the iPhone’s lock screen while charging. Only last year the well-known US company decided to cancel the project, stating that the AirPower had failed to reach its high standards, but various rumors suggest that the mat had problems mainly with heat management and interference.
