What Kind of Body Fat Do You Have?
Often on Dcomedieta I have talked about visceral body fat, the most dangerous for health: visceral fat is in fact a type of fat that accumulates in the abdominal cavity, introducing itself between the internal organs as a sort of buffer, and thus compromising vital functions. For this reason, it is called active fat: this body fat in fact influences our hormonal balance, and is linked to a greater risk of diseases, including insulin resistance and atherosclerosis. It is still unclear if you get fat from diabetes or if visceral fat can lead to diabetes more easily, however visceral fat is a serious threat to our health.
But our body fat can also be of another type: subcutaneous fat , which is the fat we see not only on the belly and which gives that effect of soft and slightly grainy skin, but also under the arms or between the legs. or on the hips. In general, if we have a protruding belly we also have visceral fat and and if we have thick thighs, we have more subcutaneous fat.
This also explains why being overweight or obese is not a disease in itself, i.e. the BMI says nothing about a person’s health status.
What body fat do you have, and how do you go about fighting it?
