What do the photos of fitness models hide?
In recent days I saw a very interesting post on the page of Female Fitness, post signed by Ivan Orizio, one of the main collaborators, on what the photos of the fitness models hide. I would like to point this out for two reasons: one is that behind the photos of fitness models that we often see on the net, there are many things that we do not know, but which can be translated with the expression “all that glitters is not gold”; two, that many of these photos of fitness models are “snatched” from the pages of the legitimate owners to often advertise slimming programs.
The message in this case is clear: those who use them want to pass the concept that by slimming only 5, 10 15 kilos or “tonifying” (which in Italian means putting muscle tone, and tone without muscle does not come) you can become like a fitness model. That is a girl who is above all an athlete, who does a specific training and food program and maybe competes in some contest; that she has been preparing for years; who has coaches, nutritionists and various trainers behind him.
But back to the post of Female Fitness : why shouldn’t you believe too much in the photos of the fitness models? Not because those models are not real: but because to do that photo shoot of which we only see a shot, they prepared ad hoc with targeted diet and physical activity, calibrating the body to the centimeter to achieve certain definition results; because behind every shot, if there is no photoshop, there is still a particular attention in choosing the right lights to create the right shadows, those that will bring out the curves or the abs; because, well, in some cases there is even a little bit of photoshop; why fitness models don’t have that shape 365 days a year; and finally the posing, that is, as a bb or fitness model knows how to pose to highlight the muscles, highlight the buttocks, the muscles of the legs, contract the abdomen, it is very important to take the photo.
What does it all mean?
That being dazzled by the photos and thinking that it is only a matter of a few extra pounds does not put us in the right position, but makes us succubus to an image that is more advertising than anything else; and that in particular, when you see these “cover” photos advertising a slimming program, you must always ask yourself how much care, how many sacrifices and how much professional work is behind those women.
This is not because we cannot be like them, but because being like them is not for everyone and the message must not get across that it is easy, and that it is only a matter of kilos or calories to be cut.
The goal that we must set ourselves, outside the stereotypes, is to stop being consumers, but to adopt a lifestyle that makes us the best version of ourselves, without forgetting who we are.
