Weight change in the morning and evening, what is this due to?
It’s a fact: in the morning you wake up deflated and weigh little , in the evening the weight change can even be over a kilo. What is the cause of the change in weight in the morning and evening?
Obviously to two main things: the foods eaten, which can have different digestive times, and the liquids taken during the day, which can be more or less expelled or withheld. If during the night, the nocturnal rest also coincides with a digestive rest of at least seven, eight hours, during the day, between main meals and snacks, we do not often have such long intervals of time without eating (and hopefully not even such long intervals without eating. drinking).
In particular, there are specific parameters that cause weight change in the morning and evening, and also weight fluctuations from one day to the next. WEIGHT CHANGE IN THE MORNING EVENING: WHAT AFFECTS IT 1) water and sodium:
the water content we drink and the sodium we take in from food can cause temporary water retention for similar reasons, namely because the body is always trying to be optimally hydrated. So we can have momentary bloating whether we drink too little or when we drink too much, and obviously the content of mineral salts (in particular sodium) contained in foods affects our electrolyte balance and therefore the way in which the body retains more or less water during the day, causing weight to swing as well.
3) the carbohydrates consumed:Â depending on whether we ate more or less carbohydrates, we can have a momentary water retention, caused by the glycogen that the body stores in the liver and muscles.
4) training: some types of training, especially strength training, cause temporary water retention. He is also more muscularly swollen. It is therefore perfectly normal to weigh more after having performed a few workouts.
5) how many times do we go to the bathroom: if we eat more, the food at the volume level “clogs” the digestive system. Being regular helps us not to have large changes in weight from day to day, but the volume of food on the stomach explains why we weigh more in the evening. And if we are not very regular, we will weigh more.
6) retention caused by other eventualities:Â the use of drugs, specific supplements, and in women the menstrual period, can cause temporary retentions.
7) intestinal fermentation: there are also some foods that cause greater intestinal fermentation, with gas in the belly. The situation is not always resolved with a night’s sleep. But, without a doubt, if we ate legumes for lunch, it is normal to be heavier in the evening.
Do all these parameters resolve themselves within 24 hours? some yes, some no. Because of this, the weight fluctuates from day to day, which is why you shouldn’t weigh yourself every day, but once a week or two. In this way it will be easier to have an average parameter that allows us not to panic if the scale oscillates even by half a kilo.
I would add that all these things can lead to a few extra pounds on the scale, but are in no way related to the “fat” factor. These are all temporary and physiological situations, none of these things mean that you are fat!
