Turkish Van Cat, characteristics
The Turkish Van Cat is a very special feline. It is certainly not a sly cat or a lazy one, on the contrary. He loves to stay active , he even has no difficulty interacting with the water and swimming, if
something appeals to him. Whoever desires a cat of this breed must be able to guarantee him attention and spaces in which he can vent his innate dynamism.Â
In Italy there are no breeding of this cat breed, so it is also difficult to define the purchase cost, certainly not insignificant.
The origins of the Turkish Van Cat
This cat has Turkish origins as its name denotes, it comes from the eastern highlands of the country, near Lake Van. There is evidence of its presence in Europe in 1955.Â
Presented in the United Kingdom by a journalist and a photographer who were honored by a pair of puppies, the breed was appreciated and recognized and since 1982 it has also been present in the United States.
Morphology of the Turkish Van Cat
The Turkish Van cat has a uniform white coat with semi-long hair, very dense and waterproof, without undercoat. In summer the hair is shorter.Â
Characteristics are two pieces on the head and divided by a white stripe. The tail is also colored, it can be brown, reddish, brindle, long and of large diameter.Â
The dimensions of this cat are of medium weight, it can reach 9 kg if male, 6 kg if female, with harmonious proportions and muscular build, with broad chest and strong bone.Â
The muzzle is triangular, with medium ears, and large rounded eyes of blue or amber or even heterochromes;Â the fingertips are pink.
Psychology of the Turkish Van Cat
The Turkish Van cat is a fearless, courageous animal that launches itself in search of its prey, even in the water. He has a strong-willed character and in the family he selects the person to whom to devote all his affection and attention, almost totally neglecting the other members. He does not show difficulties in coexistence with other pets, because he considers them playmates with whom to share time.Â
He loves to be caressed and shows a lot of attention to the daily actions of the house, quickly learns habits. He also interacts “verbally” , while not manifesting a powerful voice, so as not to disturb.Â
It is an independent cat , which looks for interests and distractions on its own, as it is very curious, which can lead it to move away from the home environment, attracted by any novelty. He can be an excellent playmate for respectful children, while he is not recommended as a pet cat for older people.
Cure of the Turkish Cat Van
The Turkish Van Cat is a resistant , long-lived feline, it can reach 19 years of age; this breed is not subject to particular pathologies. Since it has a semi-long hair it is necessary to brush it weekly, to keep it tidy and prevent it from being licked by ingesting it. In periods of spring moulting it can lose large quantities and therefore requires daily brushing.Â
