Tim Noakes’ ketogenic diet or Ebstein diet
Tim Noakes is one of the biggest testimonials of the ketogenic diet in the long term: athlete and runner with diabetic problems, Noakes has said goodbye forever to all types of carbohydrates (including fruit, apart from blueberries ) in favor of a fat-only diet and proteins, where fats are the masters, proteins instead are consumed in normal quantities but without exceeding.
Some time ago I wrote about him , citing the eating model of him as Banting, but recently the denial came from Noakes himself , who declared that his ketogenic diet is inspired by the Ebstein diet rather than inspired by the Banting diet.(to be clear, Banting and Ebstein were two proponents of the high-fat diet).
For Noakes, one of the authors of the book ” Real meal revolution “, the long-term ketogenic diet was a turning point : he stopped snoring, runs faster than when he was twenty and has lost a lot of weight that he never regained. If the ketogenic diet can be useful in losing a few pounds in a few weeks, it is precisely the time factor that is his problem ., making a strange comparison with the feeding of lions and other carnivorous animals. The fallacy of such a reasoning with no other explanation aside from saying that our body doesn’t function thanks to carbohydrates, leads me to think that it is not the only hole in the boat of the proponents of the ketogenic diet .
In short: replacing carbohydrates with fats can make you lose weight and be sustainable for a few weeks, but we need carbohydrates to survive in the long term, that is, for years. If the body can remedy the lack of carbohydrates for some time, it is not known what can happen by eating a fat-only diet for life, given that to stay in the “ketogenic zone” it is not possible to go beyond even once a week: nothing bread, pasta, rice, cereals, fruit, sweets, potatoes. For all life.
However, let’s see what Noakes’s ketogenic diet consists of, according to his description.
NOAKES KETOGEN DIET:
Forbidden foods:cereals, fruit apart from blueberries, tubers of all kinds, carrots, and of course bread, pasta, rice and pizza, all kinds of sugar, liqueurs, sparkling drinks of all kinds, drinks and juices, foods with starch, thickeners and additives, no legumes, no alcohol in any form, no peanuts. The only exception: little bitter cocoa or very extra dark chocolate.  Allowed foods: all the others, but vegetables should be eaten in moderation, while green leafy vegetables and cabbage are fine at will.
How many calories per day? There is no calorie ceiling. Noakes says he weighs himself frequently to avoid overeating: if we are gaining weight we eat less. The portions are free.
Diet plan:
Breakfastbased on eggs, cream, fatty cheeses, yoghurt.
Lunch and dinner based on fish, white meats, red meats in moderation (but yes with lamb) with vegetables of your choice and aromatic herbs.
Snacks: walnuts and hazelnuts, oil seeds, olives, avocado, occo. No to peanuts, considered legumes.
Fats for seasoning: green light or oil, cream, butter. Vegetable oils can be of all types.
