I will immediately clarify the meaning of the title, before anyone observes that we are all addicted to food : in fact, eating is necessary for our survival and it does not rain on this. But I don’t want to talk about those who normally eat to live, that is, about every living being, but about those who, on the contrary (and a little less normally) live to eat . And I’m not even referring to gourmets, food critics, or people who work in the restaurant business. I mean, alas, all the people who feel obsessed with food , all those who suffer from nervous hunger and sudden hunger pangs, and adopt behaviors that are part of their routine and ruin their lives without them realizing it. .
Why do I tell you about it and why do some people develop this food addiction?
Well: if you suffer from hunger pangs, nervous hunger and you have the impression of having a continuous, monstrous hunger, for which other people know how to keep themselves and you can’t do it (and for this obviously you feel different, strange, abnormal , condemned to perpetual hunger to maintain a healthy weight or to become obese if you give up), well, I reassure you. Not only are you not different or abnormal, but you are neither condemned to perpetual hunger to stay thin nor will you become fat ad libitum because you want to eat at any hour. This food addiction can in fact be a sign of slow metabolism or a poor diet.
According to a famous American experiment, the Minnesota Starvation Experiment, those who were subjected to a restrictive diet began to develop an immeasurable interest in food, as well as a monstrous hunger. The people who did that experiment were subjected to a low-calorie diet to verify the effects of calorie restriction on health: it was a world-wide experiment, of which we do not know much. The food restriction effects were heterogeneous, unexpected according to the doctors. Volunteers started thinking about food pretty much all the time. This thing that seems purely psychological is actually one of the weapons that the body has at its disposal to push us to eat: the constant thought of food is a signal that should not be underestimated. It means that we often undergo slimming diets, that we have a difficult relationship with food, made up of privations and feelings of guilt; that we think about food with an attitude like this makes me fat / this is ok; that we normally foreclose on a lot of foods, which leads us to go overboard more frequently, to be much more gluttonous than we once were. The signs of food addiction are nothing more than recurring thoughts that occur in those who eat poorly, are on a diet and   must return to eating in a balanced, abundant, nutritious way
