The benefits of the moonstone
It is a semi-precious stone that resembles the moon reflected on water and is one of the most used stones in crystal therapy. Let’s find out why.
In crystal therapy we discover that the moonstone is one of the most used stones : it is said to be effective for various situations, it is certainly within the reach of all budgets, aesthetic, easily available and with an intriguing background.
Nevertheless, the moonstone is not the name of a species of mineral but only the commercial name given to the gems (in the vast majority of cases cabochon) obtained from some minerals of the feldspar group : orthoclase, adularia, albite, when these, thanks to a particular effect of diffraction of light due to a specific ordered sequence of the blades that make up the structure, they present a fascinating optical effect technically called adularescence.
This optical effect produces the illusion of the presence of a luminescence under the surface of the crystal. This appears by moving the stone from the curved surface, recalling the effect of the moon’s reflection on the surface of a lake . Hence the name moonstone. The adularescence can be white or, less recurrent, bluish or orange.
The moonstone in crystal therapy
The moon is notoriously recognized as one of the main female archetypes , a representation of the feminine half, aquatic and telluric at the same time, of reality. In an age like this when the gender poles are obviously unbalanced, the moonstone is said to be of great help, especially in helping men to facilitate relationships with their feminine side and relationships with the women next to them. .
It is considered one of the best stones for fighting insomnia and sleep disorders. It is used in crystal therapy, not surprisingly, as a tool to rebalance hormonal cycles , bringing peace and calm, especially to the grind of the mind.
Also for these characteristics it is often used to increase the fertility  of women and to combat specific eating disorders typical of women with unbalanced energy: tendency to anorexia, bulimia, hyperphagia . In short, we can say that it is a stone suitable for balancing the feminine energy and calming the masculine one. Ultimately, the moonstone would help to rebalance the intuitive capacity , often crushed by the rational and perceptive ones.

On a physical level it is  linked to the health of specific internal organs : spleen , pancreas , liver and stomach ; in general to the whole digestive and lymphatic system. It goes without saying that the zodiac sign the moonstone is associated with is that of Virgo .
Where to find the moonstone
Easy to find at flea markets or online at more than reasonable prices, moonstone comes in different qualities and sizes. As mentioned, you can find white, blue and orange : white is the most common and cheapest quality, while blue is rarer and costs more. It is traded almost exclusively in cabochons and comes mostly from Sri Lanka and Myanmar .
