Telangana rice: rice with a low glycemic index

Telangana rice: rice with a low glycemic index

It is called Telangana Sona, and it is a low glycemic index variety of rice designed both for those with high blood sugar or diabetes, and for those with cardiovascular problems. A rice with a golden grain, which has a glycemic index of 51. Consider that white polished rice has a glycemic index of 83, therefore high (index in reference to glucose).

Of course, it is not the glycemic index of a food that counts but the glycemic load of the meal.
So there is a difference between eating plain rice only or with a little sauce and eating a dish instead with half rice and half vegetables or half rice and half legumes.

However, Telangana rice can also be eaten plain, with a little butter and Parmesan cheese or with a little olive oil, due to its low glycemic index. In fact, it has a lower glycemic index than even millet, which is a pseudocereal, and spaghetti, which are the pasta shape with a lower glycemic index (54).

TELANGANA RICE: THE NEW RICE WITH LOW GLYCEMIC INDEX

The new variety of Telangana Sona rice, also known as RNR 15048, is a rice created by the University of Telangana , India: it has the same flavor as white rice and can be used for risottos. But completely different nutritional values.
It has only 21% starch, and over 8% protein. The seeds will be grown in India starting in the next few months, and at the moment it is on the market only in India, organically produced by ElWorld. However, its production and trade will soon be international. This rice also has a high resistance to parasites.

Dcomedieta will soon give you news of when and where to buy it also in Italy.

But in the meantime, those with high blood sugar or diabetes can try these rice varieties instead.
Basmati rice (glycemic index 50), brown red rice (55), jasmine rice (60). And only after the parboiled rice (69).
