I took this date chocolate recipe from the Vegan in Chic blog, beautiful (http://www.veganinchic.com/dolci-in-pochi-istanti/cioccolata-di-datteri/) and I propose it with some adjustments for two reasons: it is a healthy and sugar-free dessert. With the adjustments I’ve made it’s my idea of ”real food”, of something that feeds us. It is a nutella-like, perfect to spread for breakfast on wholemeal bread, but with half the calories of traditional nutella as well as being a balanced food: proteins, sugars and good fats. Note: My version is not vegan. For the vegan version you can replace whole milk with vegetable milk, preferably homemade or see it directly from the blog. The vegetable milk on the market is chock full of preservatives, sugars such as syrup agave and added synthetic vitamins. I also recommend coconut water as a definitely healthier replacement, coconut milk as a greedy solution.
Ingrediants
  • For about 200 grams of cream:
  • 100 grams of dates
  • a pinch of whole salt
  • 100 grams of whole milk
  • 3 and a half tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa
  • a spoonful of coconut oil
  • cinnamon to taste or other spices
Instructions
  1. Soak the dates for a few hours (at least 5) in hot water, then squeeze them and put them in a blender with the cocoa, salt and milk. Pour the contents into a saucepan, add a tablespoon of coconut oil and cinnamon and mix well until boiling. Turn off immediately and let it cool, then put in a clean glass jar: this “cooked” version can be safely stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.
