Six signs that the vegan diet is NOT for you
Before ending up in some sterile controversy, I immediately clarify a point: I do not think that a vegan diet, if balanced and followed by a specialist, can hurt or be insufficient, and the only thing I am sure of is that anyone has the right to choose the diet that he deems most appropriate for himself . Although not vegan, I think that the reasons for not being vegan are insufficient to believe that those who eat vegan in a balanced and complete way can run into some food shortage; and at the same time, leaving aside the ethical issues, I believe it is not difficult to reconcile an omnivorous diet with health.
That said, I have long known the case of  The Blonde Vegan , now The balanced blonde ,blogger Jordan Younger , who after years of passionate vegan life, returned to an omnivorous diet due to health problems, saying that the vegan diet had made her sick with orthorexia . A very controversial story, for which Younger was targeted by many vegans. Yet a dietician defends it, saying that the vegan diet is not for everyone. And that if you have these six signs , maybe you should go back to an omnivorous, or simply vegetarian, diet.
SIX SIGNS WHY THE VEGAN DIET IS NOT FOR YOU (according to dietician Kate Scarlata , in the field for over 25 years and author of several bestsellers on nutrition, health, digestive problems)
– Swollen belly, meteorism, indigestion: signs of a slow metabolism, but not only. A vegan diet is rich in fodmap foods or vegetables, cereals and legumes that cause intestinal fermentation and digestive problems.
– You are familiar with osteoporosis: for years I have thought that cheeses and dairy products were the enemy, but the theory that the calcium in dairy products is not absorbable and leads to demineralization of the bones is a theory, while that cheeses and dairy products are rich in calcium is a fact. This dietician also confirms that milk derivatives are in first place for their richness in calcium.
– You feel out of energy, sluggish, irritable:Â it may be due to a lack of iron or B vitamins.
– You are obsessed with healthy food:  It’s called orthorexia, and it’s an eating disorder. Excessive control over food, in the belief that if we are not careful about what we always eat and obsessively we will have some disease, is a disorder that causes stress, anxiety and problems that affect both health and daily life.
– You are pale:  Those who follow a vegan diet must have blood tests to check that they have no deficiencies; a good rule of thumb among many vegans, but certainly not followed by everyone. If the tendency to fall hair and a sense of exhaustion is added to the pallor, perhaps it is worth doing some investigation.
– You are gaining weight:  The fact that a person is on a vegan diet does not mean that they are necessarily eating a healthy diet. The more we follow a restrictive diet, the more likely it is that a doctor will follow us: the risk is that of abounding in carbohydrates, often not whole, or eating too many polyunsaturated fats through a massive consumption of dried fruit. Two things that lead to being overweight.
