The Redmi smartphone series is enjoying great success globally, so much so that Xiaomi has decided to separate the brand, leaving it as a separate brand. Precisely for this reason, the new Redmi Note 7 is the first phone that completely loses the Xiaomi brand, becoming the first exclusively Redmi phone .

Packaging

The new Redmi Note 7 comes with a standard package (given the low price we cannot expect big news in terms of accessories). Inside we will find the 5V / 2A power supply , a USB / USB-C cable and as a gift, probably for trusting this brand, we find a semi-transparent gray silicone cover.

Design

The design of the Redmi Note 7 is one of the simplest and already used by Xiaomi smartphones. The good thing is the choice of introducing a drop notch, which interrupts the screen but always remains quite discreet and minimally invasive. Thanks to the use of the frames (many small ones) we manage not to fall often in the annoying involuntary touches on the display. With a shiny metal profile and a shell made entirely of flat glass, the aesthetics of the phone are very beautiful, and it doesn’t feel overly slippery either.

The weight of the phone is perhaps one of its flaws, as it reaches 186 grams, even if our hands will not suffer during the day because it is still well balanced. Xiaomi believes very much in this device, declaring that it has an above average resistance, also because it is equipped with a Gorilla Glass 5 and therefore bumps or falls should not worry you. The last flaw is the protrusion of the double rear camera, which even by mounting the supplied cover cannot eliminate it.

Technical specifications

Camera

This is the sector that perhaps makes the new smartphone the best in its price range, also because it is the only one to be equipped with a 48 megapixel rear camera. To be precise, the Redmi Note 7 is equipped with a dual-camera, with a 48 Megapixel main sensor and f / 1.8 lens. The sensor is a Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 , complete with electronic stabilization and the ability to record videos in Full-HD at 60 fps . The secondary 5 megapixel camera is exploited for depth of field, thus ensuring images that are always sharp and perfectly defined, with balanced colors.

When you take pictures with this phone you are pleasantly surprised by the performance. It is almost unthinkable to find such quality in devices under 200 euros and probably also in higher-end devices. It should be clarified that the photos taken by the device are not 48 megapixels but 12 megapixels, because to obtain this definition 4 pixels in 1 are interpolated. Thanks to this technology, Xiaomi has managed to maintain a high level of detail even at night. . There is also the option to shoot at full resolution, simply select the “Pro” mode.

The 13 Megapixel front camera with f / 2.2 lens is also highly above average. Obviously the selfies at night will not always be performing, you will need good light to make them give the maximum yield. Videos aren’t great, less light less detail over the course of the night, although electronic stabilization helps users make better videos without exaggeratedly abrupt movements.

Display

The Redmi Note 7 is equipped with a 6.3 inches with FullHD + (2340 x 1080 pixels) and made with IPS technology. All in all it is a large and bright display, even if it suffers on particularly sunny days. Users might have some problems, if they constantly use it under full sunlight. Basically it is still bright and has a good resolution, easily comparable to higher-end smartphones.

There is some small problem if we leave the automatic brightness adjustment. This device tends to fall, perhaps also for autonomy and therefore we could several times manually increase the brightness. As already mentioned above the bezels are there and are also reduced, but everything passes when we think about the cost of the device and considering that some time ago similar screens were unthinkable to see on Redmi devices .

Software

Right from the start, the new Redmi has an Android Pie system, customized with the MIUI 10.2  interface . It is not the best if we consider that it loses all the interesting updates of Android 9 , even if it is one of the most used and complete systems in circulation. We do not understand the manufacturer’s choice to use only the left corner for notifications which then disappear shortly after.

Regardless of this, the smartphone is equipped with the Snapdragon 660 processor , one of the most used and tested. Thanks to him, the experience is always fluid and can also be used with the navigation gestures created by the Chinese company. From his there is the possibility to use themes, split the app screen or create an additional security space, where to keep our data safe. As if that were not enough, you can use the one-handed mode and a renewed gaming mode that reduces distractions during the game sessions.

Autonomy

Since its first devices, one of the strong points of the Redmi series was the battery. We do not mind announcing that the Note 7   has a truly remarkable battery: the device can count on a 4000 mAh battery  with support for fast charging (another feature difficult to see in devices of this price range), even if within the package we will find only a classic power supply. Thanks to this large battery, we will be able to reach almost two full days with ordinary use. But what more do you want?

Price

The Redmi Note 7 was initially placed on the market at a price of € 199.99, and a version of the phone with 3GB of ram was subsequently released for € 175.99 . To date, the prices are even lower and make this device the best of this range, managing to satisfy users willing to spend even more than this range. The only advice is not to save by buying the 3 GB version of RAM but the 4 one .
