Prof Taylor’s Type 2 Diabetes Diet
Warnings. Before I talk to you about Professor Roy Taylor’s famous type 2 diabetes diet, I would like to tell you two important things.
The first is that this diet belongs to the VLCD (= Very Low Calorie Diets), that is, it is a very low-calorie diet, with a maximum of 800 calories per day.
The second is that this diet, which is able to restore blood glucose values to normal if followed for eight weeks and allows you to lose an average of 13 kilos, should be proposed to your doctor, because medical supervision is necessary to follow it. .
Another thing that I want to underline is this.
A reader recently told me that very low calorie diets can slow down your metabolism . This is obvious.
Anyone who is healthy and wants to lose some weight should never diet below their basal metabolic rate . And eating an 800-calorie-a-day diet is for 99% of adults.
But here we are talking about another thing, and that is diabetes.
In short, you have to choose between following a protocol to combat type 2 diabetes, and all its disastrous consequences, and the idea of being able to slow down the metabolism for a while. Which also has bad consequences, but less than type 2 diabetes. Furthermore , the metabolism returns to normal levels by exiting the diet and gradually resuming a healthier and more correct diet. Diabetes, well. If nothing is done, Type 2 diabetes just stays there, or gets worse.
WHEN ARE DRASTIC DIETS SUITABLE?
The very low-calorie diets have the advantage of being useful in severe cases ( 1 ) , such as in the case of type 2 diabetes or in a very very important overweight. If you have ever seen the “Lives to the limit” program you will have realized that Dr. Nowzaradan imposes a diet of 800 to 1200 calories maximum per day: you can find an example here . And he does it to allow his patients to regain the weight necessary to undergo bariatric surgery.
Many people who have been operated on for joint, back or other problems are put on a strict diet in the hospital if they are significantly overweight which has led to a worsening of their condition.
If you suffer from osteoporosis and weigh 100 kilos you will have more problems than if you suffer from osteoporosis and weigh sixty kilos. If you have very high cholesterol, and are also overweight, reducing your overweight will lead to lower cholesterol as well.
Of course, I’m not telling you that a very low calorie diet is the only answer.
In short, these protocols exist to deal with borderline cases. Certainly not to lose a size for the costume fitting.
PROF ROY TAYLOR’S DIET AGAINST TYPE 2 DIABETES: STUDIES
The type 2 diabetes diet of Professor Roy Taylor, a doctor and researcher at the University of Newcastle, has been shown to be able to bring blood glucose levels back to normal after 8 weeks, with marked improvements from the first. One of Taylor’s patients defeated his type 2 diabetes in just 11 days – I talked about it here.
Several studies conducted by Dr. Taylor on diabetic patients are also promising after the diet . In one case they involved over 300 participants. After a year on the diet, people had maintained a weight loss of around 15 pounds, and more than half of them were no longer diabetic, while the other participants significantly improved their diabetes ( 2 ).
For this to be possible, it is necessary to maintain the weight loss (or large part) achieved in the first 8 weeks, switching to a low-calorie and then normocaloric diet with the help of a nutritionist. Therefore, a change in one’s habits is necessary to be able to maintain weight, after having solved the problem of high blood sugar.
Let’s see what it is about on page two with the diet plan . At the end of the article I will offer you some links (in English) that you can send to your doctor.
