Problems with metabolism? Train at low intensity
Do you have metabolism problems? Has going to the gym not helped you as much as you thought so far?
To unblock a slow metabolism, Professor Iñigo San Millàn has no doubts: in his clinic at the University of Colorado Sports Medicine Center he conducts experiments with state-of-the-art machines to evaluate the metabolic flexibility of a subject.
METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY: what is it?
By metabolic flexibility we mean the body’s efficiency in switching from a carbohydrate metabolism (I introduce carbohydrates into my diet and my metabolism consumes them for energy purposes) to a lipid one (when I don’t eat my metabolism burns fat, a process known as lipolysis ), from the definition of the doctors Kelley and Mandarino.
That is, it indicates the body’s ability to use a different fuel for energy purposes in the same day: sugars (when we introduce them) or fats (when we are generally fasting, for example at night).
Metabolic flexibility is the secret of the lean.
I also wrote an article on how to increase it here.
HOW TO SOLVE METABOLISM PROBLEMS?
People with fast metabolisms have excellent metabolic flexibility.
Those with metabolic problems, on the other hand, have poor metabolic flexibility. The result is that when they eat, the body does not burn the calories introduced with food and converts them into fat.
Avoiding carbohydrates is not the solution for those with metabolic problems.
Although carbohydrate-free diets (ketogenic diets and the like) have been shown to be helpful in weight loss, metabolic flexibility in the absence of carbohydrates tends to deteriorate as the body becomes less and less able to burn sugars, which are the primary energy source. .
It also becomes less efficient, over time, at burning fat ( source ).
Yet poor metabolic flexibility is often associated with insulin resistance problems.
But if the solution is not to say goodbye to carbohydrates, how do you fight metabolism problems?
How do we improve the body’s ability to burn what we supply to it through food?
