Physical activity for weight loss: when does it work?
When and how much does physical activity work to lose weight , and why do many argue that physical activity is not enough to lose weight? An interesting article on Vox.com in fact examines the reasons why physical activity in itself does not lead to weight loss , if not associated with a controlled diet on the quantity and quality of food. But is it really so?
It depends on how we structure physical activity and what we mean by weight loss.
Most of the articles explaining that physical activity for weight loss is not enough are based on a very common misunderstanding about the goal of this activity. Burn calories. Losing weight by creating a calorie deficit. Often people who rely on the fact that exercising will allow them to lose weight make two tragic mistakes that lead them to always have the same weight (but how, do I do hours of physical activity and I do not lose weight?) Or even to gain it (but how , have I gained weight despite the hours in the gym?).
The problem lies upstream, in fact, that is, in the fact that physical activity is considered as a tool that will make us burn calories, point and stop.
This is not quite the case: it is true that any activity allows us to burn calories. Standing will cause us to burn more calories than sitting, for example . The point is: how many calories are lost by exercising? How do we estimate them
